[Music] hey what's going on I'm David Avalon I'm here with Robert Drysdale for our sixth episode of breaking the guard and I just came back from Spain was gone for like ten days living the life there's a difference but what I tried when David travels David travels on vacation I travel in and out the country just for a seminar sometimes in the country for like 12 hours it's it's not the same Dave David is live in the life it's definitely a lot rougher when you're just teaching it yeah I got a record I went to Europe one time I was in here for 21 days and I hit 17 cities 21 days yeah that's that's a record that's heck it's hectic like you don't sleep you eat what you get it sounds amazing because like all the times you put this stuff on like Instagram and people because you only put the best pictures you don't put pictures of themselves waiting in line at the airport losing their luggage you know not being able to check into a hotel this is kind of stuff that happens when you travel because it's so hectic it's stuck in traffic you're not posting about that you're posting about like the scenery or the good times or whatever and people are the impression it's a vacation you know although so much fun is having its trust me it's not as fun when you're like at the airport twice a day you know and that's assuming nothing goes wrong and normally I mean Murphy is brutal with me man when it comes to me just does not like me man everything could possibly go wrong seems to go wrong with me well I'm so used to when I miss a flight I'm gonna get mad anymore or if something happens if I could scamp so I have to sleep at the airport I'm like that you know I missed one flight of my whole life really and I was pretty frustrated member I was with Enrico Coco I think we had done a tournament together and we were exhausted so we slept right in front of check-in counter yeah and they didn't even bother to wake us up yeah and we were like right in front of the counter Wow but that's hella tired yeah people don't realize the effects of jetlag especially I mean I mean I'm big on my routines and my diet and like I like I'd normally eat at the same time when you're traveling all gets thrown out a while and a lot of times I come back I'm sick the immune systems run down because you've been sleeping like 3-4 hours a night I think I like the worst experience I had with us I always wanted to go to Austria and I was in Austria it was my birthday I'll never forget I was there for like 12 hours and in 12 hours I went to the airport you know from the airport to the gym and then taught the seminar I got like four hours I Southern my birthday got like three four hours sleep there's some sightseeing in the morning no no but should the airport by flight got delayed so I got a couple of hours to kill went back to the city this inside scene and back to some pictures you know that's what everyone saw on Instagram and then went back to the airport and then I was good but I did all of that in like 12 to 12 hours I was in Austria it's amazing how much you can get done when you're really like I really want to see Austria you know it's pressed they do a foot it's not raelia when I went there this last one right his last one it was I think of 2017 I date the moment I landed an hour later I had my first seminar no there's three hours and then I taught another seminar an hour after that one so it's like six hours straight of teaching after coming overseas from was a good way 20-hour flight I don't get from there so that was pretty brutal but I had it that well you know I just think is I try to drink as much water as possible is a coffee what I do drink coffee every opportunity I get I heard that the flight they're like no sir would you like some coffee I'm like - [Laughter] yeah good for you man I grew up a Mormon site and drink coffee until like I was in my 30s oh wow yeah I mean I left the church like early on like when I was a teenager but it was still not a habit for me to drink coffee because it's just like I don't drink coffee and in my 30s I kind of like okay I'll give it a go every once see what the hype is about and I like can't live without it I mean you believe it you can live without coffee I've done it you know but like it once you're on it just feel like life is not possible without it it's from Ammy so you think yeah making quite a view those and all that never got into it I just felt like it was too bitter I'll do like a little kid kapha come at you yeah phrase about to taste a coffee I just like the effect the way Cubans and Brazilians make is the way I like it is it's very sweet I can be almost you know that's the way I like it but uh yeah I mean it's addicting this so let's move into the topic of the day which is going to be a BCC we have the 2019 ACC World Championships coming up a just a couple weeks now I think um oh yeah a couple weeks from now and now we're super excited man like this is I haven't you have every eight I've um said will UFC almost every ADCC is the best ADCC ever right like yeah how many time is Joe Rogan said this is the greatest fight of the century like I feel like people say that stuff all the time right and I mean it's always exciting because you know you get a lot of potential matchups that what is gonna have you know like that matches that people have been waiting for a long time I feel like a lot of times on the best matches are the ones that we see quite regularly so if you look at like I'm just gonna look at a 77 kilo bracket like those guys have fought each other a number of times like they have we kind of have an idea of what's gonna happen but they're always like the ones that people are really expecting like the super fight or who's gonna win the open weight class this year there's always like these these matches that have never taken place that have the potential would be like really good or incredibly tactical and slow yeah so sometimes people are often disappoint because of the hype you know because either the fight doesn't actually live up to the hype will determine does not look at the hype but this one really like I feel that there's like some divisions I'm very excited about others I think that they are less because we've seen them fight against each other so many times it's less interesting but more interesting thing to me is like what's going to happen when these two go against each other because we have never seen that or it's only happened once or haps happen a long time aboard the last time it was a war let's see what happens this time know for sure you know with the tournament format you just never know how things are going to work you always said tornament that fair yeah I designed depending on your draw on the bracket you might have a sweet lineup for your style or it could just yeah I'll go Pat absolutely so the every matchup could be different but I don't really that each ACC has gotten progressively better and yeah that's a good testament to the evolution absolutely love your art but I mean this happens in all sports like if you look at gymnastics like 50 years ago the type of tricks that gymnasts are doing now and other sports are easier to time like swimming or like sprinting you can measure the time like like things that are more esthetical like gymnastics and Jiu Jitsu or harder the measure because it's more of an opinion yeah but like things like swimming you can accurately you know measure I this guy is like three seconds faster than a swimmer fifteen years ago for example and you know but but I think that all sports Oroville anything that is competitive tends to evolve in all different fronts right so just certainly has never been better I know we talked about this before but it gets home I think I think it's almost insulting to do Jitsu when people tell me that did you it's better than the 80s and 90s or 2000s than it is now yeah I think it's enough sorting to the art you're insulting the art like insulting and that's not it's not a compliment the young generation either because that they didn't do anything that's right it was all of them that the new school I mean you guys had nothing huh you guys are literally like had the the road you know the bricks laid down for you to walk that road man like that was so easy you guys had it handed to you in so many ways and that's why you're the best generation ever because you're standing the shoulders of giants man like it was so much harder when they're people that have access to that much information so you can never discredit the people that come before you but at the same time to me it's like it's ludicrous to believe that just what's better twenty years ago that is now I mean that's insane yeah I just resistance to what they would call the export technique yeah I know a lot of the old-school guys you look at Maryam bolo and they're like yeah this is garbage you know now like we've gone too far towards you know support rules and what that but I mean our caller chose self-defense oriented because they were teaching it then yeah that's what they say like uber and Bowl is not self-defense or into true I agree our caller chokes self-defense oriented all the guy could be wearing a jacket okay your your your life and death ability to defend yourself you know I get life in that situation is contingent on it being cold outside you know like it that's not a good argument for self-defense but I think there's a lot of things that we teach that are not self-defense written that's okay that's I mean I like a self defense oriented fighting style I've always liked that but you know not everything that that uh just because a person doesn't have a a jacket on like it doesn't mean you shouldn't be just offend yourself you know yeah but like the criticism against like a lot of the new techniques to me I go I'm two minds about it because I know we're gonna get back to these to see in a second I just want to finish my point here but I think that you know when it comes to ADC sellout when it comes to like jujitsu we should always lean towards techniques that work everywhere with that being said the competition aspect that is a lot of fun you know if you really just want something purely self-defense I say you should just practice him in me yeah like right hand left hook and like you should even get into you know like Sportage it's a sort of speak but you know but that's it's it's difficult because the kind of culture that it creates is not a culture that is appealing to a lot of people so that there's that as well you know but I think the way it has to do how your instructor teaches I like to teach like a jujitsu that I like I like I like to be I like believe that it works everywhere right something that's gonna work on the streets keno game a we talked about this before yeah this is I think that where we should be moving towards that being said I'll show a burn bolo every now and then but that's not the core of my program right I've had students like lightweights get mad at me cuz I don't show it enough I'm like I'm not gonna make that the matrix of my age it's oh I'm sorry that's like small aspect of it if anything my opinion you know but people disagree no I think you should be open to all the techniques of what not if you're not learning from every part of the game then you're putting yourself at a disadvantage you know because you definitely need to know everything that's in it so like even though you're not gonna use something like a burning ball very often you said I know you should still know it otherwise being ignorant of it and only that if you're gonna be a good instructor you should have a fundamental understanding things you're gonna teach you know like I'm not an expert at it but at the same time I feel that that is like my job to learn to teach my students yeah even though I wouldn't know I wouldn't pretend to know as much as Palo me all does there yeah I'd be crazy too but like as an instructor you have to have a fundamental understanding but that the argument that a lot of the old school guys make I think they do have it is a good point there we have drifted in a lot of ways too far not that that all previous generations didn't either they did as well but we just got like a whole new like ten layers deep into little lapel sweeps and like it doesn't translate into a fight you know but just like part of the you know follow through evolution you're gonna have many different like mutations so to speak out and then you're gonna figure out you know this is mutation succeed long term yeah this is kind of like what's going on there's people going to the brain Bowl leg locks you know whatever and after a certain point you know I realize is this a long-lasting game plan that feeds again we're still a little bit early met evolution so yeah so I don't have anything running against it but yeah you know I've run my MMA school so like I don't think I've ever ever had anybody teach a parabola but yeah it doesn't mean like I think it's a garbage move or like or like to just be like support you know or McDo Joe or whatever yeah you know that was the contra if you put if you put you know like if you if you put half IO mandis to grapple with an elite grap or the 90s how far meant is what bearing below and get us back in a matter of seconds seconds like it when I it's not even a question of that what happened to me but you know I think I think some of the resistance comes out of resentment over the fact that it's too difficult to accept that you know that someone so much younger than you is doing so much better yeah you know and it's it's not it's not a one-size I guess it's not a compliment it's a compliment to jiu-jitsu not to the person who's actually performing the new technique you know like it's it's it's not so difficult to repeat techniques that people before you have you know have developed and now you're just pretty much copying it so that doesn't take much credit in my opinion doesn't doesn't mean much no I mean if you just look at the current age of leglocks yeah I mean I was getting people to tap although over the place with just basic Issac Romney heel hooks before clueless yeah you grabbed someone like Gordon Ryan or Craig Jones and threw him in if you like late 90s early 2000s the other ran through everybody absolutely lucky but that's but that's you know like I'm sure that anyone who's training those techniques is developing new things and is they should be but you know like I I just don't understand why someone gives themselves so much because in jujitsu works as a product the process of elimination all right we're eliminating what doesn't work and we're selecting what works what works lingers what doesn't gets weeded out right now for you to discover these things it's easy to go yeah you know you know a leg reap works and if you apply that you'll hook this way or a key more that way it's easy for you to say oh this is how it is of course because when you're given the best way of doing it by someone who's teaching you you have you don't have to go through the 1,000 ways that you shouldn't do it I call it the negative lesson you've never learned that negative lesson or someone who's actually you know developing the technique little by little they have to try a thousand ways of doing it wrong before they finally figured out the way to do it right and then they give that to their teacher or students right they put it on YouTube someone copies it and then future generations will perfect that technique but it is so much harder to see because I now app for example I'd I would have not had been able to see a lot of the lake transitions leglock transitions that are being done regular and in fact I've been doing lately because I'm like watching people I'm learning too but I had not I did not see that ten years ago right and it wasn't because I wasn't training but it was because I was busy with all the other like 1,000 possibilities from this situation I didn't see that one that happened to be a very effective one but once those the ones that don't work get eliminated man it's kind of easy because just your select it's been selected already you already know what works and what doesn't it's so much easy to build on top of that you know and then I don't know I think that's uh I think the I mean I remember when I was a purple Bell that we had to watch fights Dave and they're like people wouldn't have a camera on our phones we had to memorize the techniques people were doing and go to the gym it was he doing again and try to figure it out at the gym what that person was doing because if you didn't see it live you didn't see it at all it was so much harder you know so I think that you know ways people take that for granted like how easy it is to get information today oh for sure I know my brother and I we learned a lot just for filming music yeah we had a camera and every time we competed we filmed each other we did this from wrestling in high schools yeah we got into that early because when my brother and I were doing him mixed martial arts and started doing grappling most of the time we didn't have a coach yeah so like we were learning the negative lessons yeah so I remember the I have one match with Gordo whose modern inventor the modern half guard yeah I speak gray and I didn't know anything about half guard back in 1999 it was just like the position before yeah and now you know like something half guards like it was a guy inferior position in my mind like you would never go there willingly yeah and of course he was going there all the time and here the beany by a last-second sweep and I watched that match maybe like a hundred times and studied every half guard yeah I did and then I made it part of my game and now yeah I started using the same sweeps he used against me on all my training partners but like without filming it for sure it would be really hard so much harder do they remember of those details or have my brother tell me oh this is what he did you know that you would lose it so like having video is such a powerful tool and then when you have internet which makes it easy to distribute that video everywhere it's for sure the reason why everybody's progressing so much faster yes absolutely absolutely I'd normally like I teach like a lot of wrestlers to transition to you know MMA and they come to me learn jujitsu and like when you say guard to a wrestler it's almost like blasphemy because it's kind of I don't know I'm trying to think of a corollary for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu here what would be the equivalent even think of one but like for a wrestler being on his back sounds like sacrilege it's against everything's been trained to do and think and believe his whole life and they're not wrong they're not wrong but at the same time and they fight you're gonna be on your back we've seen Olympic caliber wrestlers get taken down them in me it's happened it's gonna happen there's no way out of it right so a lot of times when I teach wrestlers I'm back at the half guard point I I don't I don't call it half guard I call it a single it's a single leg and then like they fight for that underhook single and then then and they happen to get that so much fast and once you started looking it that way because once you understand with how sweeps on half guard work and how you're supposed to be trying to come up the whole time and how it's it's a position get your opponent off balance a lot of it overlaps with wrestling a big chunk of it is basically wrestling from the bottom you're in a bad spot in your wrestling your way back up and once you start looking it that way then you know bottom does not mix it's not such a bad position for a wrestler anymore not that he would pull in that position but it's for him it's basically recovering from a bad position so that's a perfect example of like the evolution of BJJ because when I started train was the exact same way the half guard was it was a bad spot it was like your kind in guard but almost mounted ya know it's you're in a bad spot here but you're getting chances are you were getting smashed and then someone had the idea of getting that under hook and get another side and then just that right there changed everything all of jiu-jitsu was changed it's funny to watch people grappling I got to see some footage like to work on a document and we're working on of like you know people grapple I mean every 1940s 50s 60s and it's a lot of it is already there especially when watched coasting judo like those guys were light years ahead of Brazilians in so many different ways but a lot of it is just it's very very basic comparative a like you know even like some of the most sophisticated guys you're watching them it's like it looks like they're bluebells and it's not not enough attack on them it's these guys we're here because of them but technically that's where the sport was compared to where it is today yeah even like I mean when I say blue but I'm talking like Naga Torres I'm not talking about did you half once because if you're talking high did you have world championships like they not even look like whoo belts because if blue boots are too good he's not just got it's well not supposed to be a purple you max like they're purple both but not really you know because they'd smoke 90% of black votes out there but those are the competitive you know 20 year olds who you know are standing on the shoulders of giants like they get everything just select it for them the very very best things same thing for him in May by the way I mean may this did that same selection process like imagine the stuff we believed about martial arts in the 1980s and 90s and if it weren't for the UFC we would still be believing because wrestling boxing was around a lot of these arts that have been incorporated into them there and around but that's not the perception people hadn't been made but the selection process proved that a lot of what we thought was effective for fighting was absolute garbage yeah you know and like I think that finally I don't want to mention what martial arts were talking about it but it finally lost their place because is more in the category of folklore than actual fighting yeah call me art forms yeah there's nothing if it makes you happy like it's not well you can't sell that as self-defense because you know it isn't I mean now we know factually that that stuff doesn't work in a fight yeah and for sure I have all my fighters watch UFC one two three and go through the series because man the stuff guys had to do back in the day it was so much harder yeah in the sense at first I had no idea what was gonna happen and then you had no time limits no round yeah pretty much everything goes you could punch him in the groin pull hair I got that yeah it was like you could I the very first volley to toe in Brazil what could be considered the first volley to Nevada to know if you're in the if you have not been following him and may you know for a long time but the tutors will get called in an a before it was rebranded MMA probably tutor in Portuguese means anything goes and before that was about Lando to do which is like a different way of like you know using the verb the verb but means the same thing the very first one can't remember the date I'm gonna go with 1934 but I could be a little off here but it was a fight between George Gracie and Chico fully Dutch and that fight was the first time they had a Greek is previously these matches the cross fighting styles between capoeira and Jiu Jitsu or cup we're in judo or boxing in greco-roman these things had existed for a long time but they would normally agree on the rules the day before and normally like you know I would always want the rules that favor my style same thing with you we would fight over uniforms ghee no ghee what can I wear what can I do and this is the first time where George Gracie and Chico went anything else like you do whatever the hell you want I'll do whatever I want and they went at it like that was the first I mean that was far more was permitted then that would be permitted in the UFC today yeah that was even more of a real fight that was far more as real as it gets yeah then did he go but these guys are I don't know about I galge but I pretty much anything else I think was was permit and they went at it George Gracie is like oh I call him like the unsung Gracie no one's ever heard of him but he was like arguably the father of modern anime and at that time he was the best member of the Gracie family a lot of people remember him but we're gonna talk about a little about him on in the documentary but yeah they have a think with all over the place so let's get back to a DCCC I know we have like a bunch of brackets to talk about you want to pull it up the maybe the start with a 66 kilo one yeah start talking about that one of the prospects and names and this is like a recent update right from August 26 and there's been one change in aware of so the first guy in the list is I think Carlin Stein but he is the one that got removed yeah he sustained an injury so he's being replaced by Nicky Ryan okay and I actually wrote 86 I was trying to get max to replace them max beat Ethan in the tournament like you know max is one of our guys purple belt he's very very talented wrestler you know dropper in general but I think Nicky just got the spot first yeah you know she's doing this time around there this is switching people's their teammate they're getting the first switch which I hadn't seen in previous iterations yes and where the teammate just took a spot there are criterias in my opinion like I don't mean this is you know some form of criticism don't take it to like I'm not saying it's a great solution for this but I think that there's there are their criterias for inviting people aren't always the best ones because the way I see it it all comes down to one thing merits are you deserving to be the biggest crap in terment the world and you know I think a lot of times there's like who knows who kind of going on there's you know biased towards you know where you were born I know that happened in my case biased towards who you train with how famous you are and like these things really shouldn't matter I think that you should have a board people to look at your resume what have you done are you worthy of being here because of your skills right and that but I think in some point they kind of go oh let's get this guy because people like them that's not what this is about man you know this is not what we're doing here but the yeah the sixty six kilo bracket they could set and Ethan got replaced by Nicky is that right yeah yeah we have run alvarenga Brazil he was a South American Charles winner I want to say I see him compete Orissa I can't remember where the name rings a bell I've seen him compete riesen I can't remember where that was but yeah I think I could be with the world I think he fought that the world that was commentating maybe that's why I remember him from but I could be wrong and you have Thomas helping from Ireland there's a European trial winner Kenta our moto from Japan Chow force the jab depend always comes in with the lightweight I thought they always have like some really solid competitors in the lightweight Japan has had I believe one ADCC champion in my weight class ni kakuta he beats although in the final is a judoka i think that you don't go with like but like like very you know one of those that to start one of those schools of judo that really it's been a lot of time on the ground could be wrong yeah bite to eat I don't know if I didn't remember watching if I don't have saw the pulled or he took solo down whatever the case but Seneca kudos the only Japanese ADCC champion oddly enough my heavier weight class cuz yeah you know mostly most of the Japanese martial artists tend to be in lighter weights just genetics you know they're they have like they have some big Japanese shoe they're just like it's that it's kind of like not the I think there's smaller people in general but I was surprised anyone see Ishii in here issues and Olympic gold medalist I think it could have gotten in I know he's fighting him in May he just fought pfl recently I I'm trained with him I've seen him training like he could be in here and you know surprised he didn't get invited Rose we got Paula Miao not surprised he got invited Gio Martinez there we go Argos to Mendez gusta Mendez I think how do you see my looking at the bracket here the whole brac we're gonna go through the whole bracket but and then you've been talking about your favorites I I'm gonna go with like I'm gonna put my money on all gusto right away but we'll talk a little bit more depth down the road yeah jemelle hill hill although Montelena John Agrippa Crete kakuhen Bruno facade oh nothing is Gabriel Tai Rotolo and that's it he's a really young kid I think yeah try this one of those young 20 right brother yeah yeah that's right that's cool he got invited good for him but he's yeah he's like he's like really young 18 I'm guessing yes turn 18 yeah I saw their videos when they're like 13 14 in there they go richard alicorn and kennedy my CL which is convenient Sabrina's son that's right also took a spot it was in there originally and then I think they wouldn't allow him and his son to be in the same division together be good I don't know why because there's other people who have I mean let me look here but come in they're not he's out he's out there yeah so yeah but I guess he said he stepped out so it's time to take his place cuz the only one is son not to be able to compete in it why would they not let father and son could be the same racket I don't know because they have to I think in case they do the final because you have Gio Martinez and you have Keith Kerkorian they're both Tennant yeah you have a few out those guys you have yeah I think I'll let me see at least I saw at least two out those guys here Pablo Mantovani - yeah tyro Tolo so yeah like I think it's one of those things were like they feel that if you belong to the same team or if you train together it's not gonna be a real match and they're really trying to avoid that I think in this regard I be Jeff does have a better system yeah like it's basically two per team right and then you go on opposite ends of the bracket they actually have a really good system oh by the way just on the sytem before we talk about the 66 Kuehl division they have a software that does a bracket now it used to be a yelling contest like I don't know if you ever been more a part of these I've been in a few of them and it's like it's not fun basically the guy with the deepest voice wins every single time I'm talking about five degrees out because it turns in was creating contest man like you get him into your room and they're like oh no my guy should be seen and I know it should be my guy oh boy your guy one of the world's two years ago yeah but your guy didn't win the worlds at all nobody took second twice and that's a kind of arguments they're having like oh who is more fit to be you know a seed in the in the in the brackets and this these demons are so important because I could say in tournaments aren't fair in the sense where you're getting you're getting uh you know all the people with with the really strong teams they have more say a lot of times to their leverage and already a fact that they have strong team yeah and they leverage and talk which is kind of like you know that happens everything in life you've got more power you gonna leverage that power to your favor yeah I don't know everybody knows this but I think where Roberts talking about is in when they're doing the World Championships they says they have all the top coaches from the major teams yes get in and they stay in the same room and then they're they're doing like a parlay oh and anyone who's gonna get seeded by who you know and anyone who has a representative in the open weight class can be there right the thing is if you look at the open weight class that every now and then you're gonna get a guy from a small team somewhere in Europe but nine out of ten they're all representative of big teams so you have like the basically the top ten coaches in the world sitting in a room deciding who is gonna get seed and you know for example if your current champion you're already number one yeah you know and then all the times number two in the bracket will be like current Pan Am champion or the guy who lost to the number one guy in the world's last year lycra dolphin Busha were like always on opposite ends of the bracken these things and I think that's fair but I'll down the list a lot of times for that guy who has not had does not have a good seat he has to be five of the 15 top rappers in the world to be champion it's just like it's so much harder with a guy like Bush airship because he's a champions gonna get some much much easier right and because there's a lot of gray area in these meetings what happens is the terms in was screaming contest my guys better than yours blah blah blah and a lot of times the same people over and over wind up winning these discussions right because they they're just very clever at how the system works I've been doing it longer so now I be Jeff has a soft word it does it it's based off your rankings so then those meetings are over which is like Azzam best has ever happened four digits because they go like this on a button and the software tells you where you go there's no argument and that's the way it should be this should be done like this you can analyze yeah it's not you can't accuse anybody of favoritism or no and in its it's these meanings are not simple man like all that's me fair it's how do you get a group of like ten people with opposing interests and come up with something fair it sounds easy does it I try try to get ten people with like a completely different view of what you guys should do next try to be fair yeah absolutely office it ends of like you know when a total conflict so eighty CC I think that I don't know what kind of system to use as far as seating but I hope that they're moving towards that direction in the ranking system the problem of ACC is the whole idea behind it CC is unifying all these grappling systems yeah right you and the dokas the wrestlers the Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners whatever how do you create a ranking system when these guys aren't even competing like if your limbic wrestler I mean where do you match that with Malaysia for example like where is that they don't they're not the different languages or different systems so I don't know what they're using but like I really hope it's not based off the opinion of one person I think that even the assembly is messy as it is it's better than the one person system because then your form were subjected to bias they have one person making all the decisions then the whole thing falls by then it definitely there's gonna be some bias in there you got ten people yelling it's more work it's a lot of noise it's you know you're gonna lose your mind in there but at least you're closer to a balance because you have people who disagree with you it's kind of like the way the political system works the more people disagreeing with you I know it's annoying but it's probably for the better yeah yeah so I I don't know what system they're using but like David I want to ask you what about your favorites here well you got going for the 66 kilo division man again I would think I goes to Mendes as well just because he's probably I know he's done it quite a few of these already so he has the most experience in the field and actually got to train with him a little bit in China and Beijing we were actually in the same room it was me cyborg congenial and JA yeah it's a rough room two beers and cronin Hixon busy on this thing we were there for like a week yeah yeah yeah I think he's definitely i I think I like Don King because he's like one of those I always like the lightweights who play on top another they don't play guard but like guys like ham boom al fasi me because it's so much harder to be a top player those divisions like if you look at those divisions and IBJJF would be rooster all the way to lightweight they're they fighting to be on bottom yeah they fight to be on bottom and then you came a guy like braun phi seen young men DS and they are they're completely okay with being on top and they win and to me that's it's almost like a ultra heavyweight pulling guard and winning every fight yeah it's like it's rare a man like how often does that happen you know what that man that's some this guy's really you know did something for for his you just so here it's really unusual but I'm gonna go with almond boost amenities in Jamil Hill those are my top picks for division I haven't seen him know much in know he to be honest I'm really biased towards his game I thought his performance at the world's the year he won was absolutely outstanding I've been watching him since you know for a while now and he's become one of my favorite grapplers a lot of big names and it's hard to say but I I don't know how Jamil feels no yeah I haven't seen compete Oggy but those be my two papac's right there yeah I agree so I haven't seen Jamel nogi either so I I wouldn't know I'm try and lean here I like the clinic guys I don't know how they're gonna do in this one if I was gonna lean on somebody I think the second pick I'd have might be Bruno Frazetta frozen oh my toes Gabrielle he won the world this year he was a dark horse I remember watching him like when he fight something that kids not supposed to win their fyke I never seen him before right and then he wins his next one I'm supposed to win that one either he when the next one like oh I did not expect any all the way till he won the tournament I mean world plays his first world title and I remember him have an outstanding balance like that was the one thing that like like really shocked me like no one could sweep this kid like he would be in positions where he'd be like he's swept he's done and he bounced back up to his feet it's got cat man like he couldn't sweep this game yeah and so he really surprised me again same thing is your middle I don't know how he's gonna perform noogie that's a very different it's different if your the game is very reliant on lapels and sleeves for example my game never has been yeah like I remember I guys like me and Damien I think game demon translated so well and it maybe for the same reason if you watch him as a blue purple Brown competing it was always like a half guard butterfly kind of game that didn't like it wasn't contingent on him have I need the sleeves in the collars or what I'm doomed right so I don't know how his game would translate in that regard but he's a big man he's hungry man he's that he's that kid that could come in and surprise everyone because he did that at the worlds this year so my toes Gabrielle's another name to watch out for Johnny greipel obviously always you know always a top player annex like big names here but I think those are the names we mentioned here I think it's fair to say that the ones we can be expected to see on the podium yeah I think so too but like you said a lot of tough guys I wouldn't surprise me I mean of course you got Nicky Ryan in there Richie Ryan's right especially since we have leglocks our ago yeah you never know what could happen but you know thing I think the thing that one issue that a lot of people that only do super fights will have an ADC see is that the super fight format doesn't prepare you the tournament format is a whole different ball game first of all it's much harder i think super flights get d get you paid which is something we could talk about the perfect the how'd you just become more professional over the years and that's really nice you got a lot of exposure and that's really nice good for them too but at the same time they're a lot easier way super fun like a like one fight to say all the time even though they weren't really well paid the only one to pay every other one-take thousand bucks if I are getting paid like I would their 60 man absolute division to win for the chance to win a thousand dollars I mean I mean I was like oh man that's a big money well I wasn't waiting the key I went an open way class and get Agee I'm like yes I made it I made it I remember I got my first Kia sponsorship key it was like best day I'm like in my and my head I made it in jujitsu so I got a freak clearly you know pinnacle of the sport but like the thing about the tournament format is that it prepares you to go not only multiple times you have to fake multiple elite opponents and a lot of the super fights they are a system with no points so you're gonna walk in a TCC which is a hybrid ride to get it no points the first half and you get points in the second half and things like wrestling becomes very important and I I was commentating for the IBJJF Grand Prix a few weeks ago and I was saying that like I'm gonna toot my own horn here I've been calling this for years and it's gonna keep happening nogi is gonna be more and more wrestling oriented especially in the heavier divisions let's throw in the lighter divisions but if your middle and above and you can't wrestle it's gonna be hard for you to win in the future it's gonna happen to let it's gonna happen you always gonna have exceptions but I like to look at patterns in the average not the exception all right and there's the wrestling level is going up very quickly and it's it was the deciding factor I'm gonna say like maybe six seven out of ten matches at the Grand Prix like almost every match was decided with wrestling and this ADC see a lot of people excited about leg locks and all that that will not be the deciding factor mark my words it's gonna be wrestling wrestling is gonna be the deciding factor of who wins and who loses this at ECC and a lot of the guys that comes from no point system they don't know how to wrestle why would you yeah strategically it makes no sense for you to blow your load like kill yourself take someone down which is not easy risking the guillotine in and up in a bad spot someone taking your back right for what just to be on top of guy that's gonna pull guard anyway you're gonna be on top regardless you could be on guard on top without a try-hard so because of this a lot of these guys will lack the experience to win at a DCC where as someone that comes from idgaf background for all their flaws you're used to that sort of system you're used to having fight after fight after fight and being able to take someone down and hold down and go to their back when they turtle up these are dynamics that occur only when points are available once you remove points why would you ever go to your knees it makes no sense hence why no one ever Turtles up unless they're inexperienced in that rule format but if they are experienced it makes no sense to go your needs to stay on your back yeah for sure no and that's the thing like I said like as I think especially for some of the times panic guys since they're used to doing so only what not the rule set an ADC is really unique and that's I guess a nice way of saying that I don't like the rule set in particularly yeah I think it's got some glitches it's got something on right yeah it's got a lot of glitches in it so it'll be interesting to see how they adapt but I'll tell you what the guys who did the us trials they went through hell because they I think for the lightweights it was like 128 man brackets which is like eight matches yeah so like records like I haven't seen a bracket that bit yeah I remember back in the day like 2005 and 2007 trials there was less than eight guys in some of these tryouts yeah it was crazy it's like dude I think I've seen 120 something but like this is I think the ATCC trials was probably the most competitive one ever yeah so those guys definitely have an they already understand the rule set yeah I made it through to win a spot and they've already been through arguably a harder crack in a sense that they had to compete eight times and yeah I think bears is in one day versus two days agency so you know azz will be considerably easier tournament wise although the president wrought yes I thought the certain the fights will kill a lot of guys are you got to remember to like not to discredit anyone's in the trials but trials kind of like free-for-all - yeah like anyone can compete like you you know you've been training for like six months get in there Christ I don't think there's a criteria I never take any trials I got invited when I competed but yeah I don't think I was fortunate I was invited every yeah like I I don't think there's a criteria I think if you pay you get in so that explains that the I mean if you're a blue bow you probably don't feel qualified but there's some confident brown belt in there that does not qualify to be these unicum so like a lot of the guys gonna be competing against are necessarily Italy or is if you're in the ATCC 16-man bracket every guy you for every guy if I can potentially beat you ya know so it's a different ballgame there's no easy matches no easy matches the easier yeah what about the the 77 kilo David let's move on to 77 this one is always a fun division to watch because it's like they sit on that border between the guys that are gonna be resting a little bit it to be very dynamic this is where you get a lot of like you know like tricky stuff they're some of the most technical guys in jiu-jitsu yes and I know a lot of these people so it makes it a bit more interesting to me so I've run through the names real quick and they're making this tie well we have JT Torres foreign champ Ross Nichols Jonathan sativa John Combs Serbia Tulio Matias Geng rot Lachlan Geils Lucas APRI Vaknin Rocha another kanuto Oliver taza Edwin mg cells here Vinicius DJ Jackson Nicky Ryan and Dante Lyon that's an exciting bracket man that's the next I I think oh I've had that much of Nicky Ryan I told you he was one of the guys have moved so he actually got pushed in place by Gary tonin is exactly yeah cuz Nicky Ryan went down to 66 to replace Ethan and then correct in Gary tone and took his buck so let's talk from the top here Dave jttours current champ I mean he's like definitely I'm gonna come up with like my top four guys and you can do the same how about that yeah I JT is definitely one of my top for sure he is he's got everything comes back fake game yeah he's takedown game has definitely improved a lot yeah so he said I'd be a hard guy to unseat he has the champion the only thing that worries me about like guys like JT is you know he was training with under and those guys in San Diego and then he move up in his own gym and I've been I've walked that road I am Telling You like oh I'm gonna train with my students I got some good students here it's not the same you know and I don't know he's been tricked teaching and training you know far away from the Altos home base in San Diego where the best training partners are for some time and I think that does hurt you Alou because how off the question always asked myself how often I got tapped when I was training brazo and its golden age in Sao Paulo often when I get tapped in six months let's say or ever a month or whatever how often was I getting tap I move to Las Vegas and open my gym and then you're still you're still in shape and everything but like you're not being pushed you know the same way so that thing that any guy who opens his gym has pays that cost you make more money you you know and I got you got big bills to pay I get that but at the same time your training does suffer a little bit it's that hard because ever since I've been training I've had a school yeah I've never had that I've never had the luxury of not having a school - same here so you have to be very well disciplined yeah because when you're on your own coach so to speak or like yeah essentially my brother would coach me I quit my brother so we're essentially our own coaches in a way took of a brother that's a good dynamic by the way it's a strong bond like I I wish I think if I had that I think I'd have been a good definitely it's definitely good for you guys love I've seen twin brothers an aunt or like brothers when they have that there's so much love and respect and I wall you know the deep down he's always gonna have your back there's a bond that you can't you can't create you can create that unless your brother's right I mean at the same time they're trying to kill each other yeah oh it's a healthy competition and even though I was bigger than for the most part of my life like are usually having a 20 pound advantage of it yeah he was a one guy that was able to tuck me out regularly just had a ridiculous argument yeah I wrote a really good on buggy I mean I pissed me off because he was just about the only guy that could tap me out like yeah anytime he knew you inside out and that's why yeah but uh no so for sure having a burden mes helpful there's a lot of wrestlers ahead pressing brothers or one know that work I won't you see - yeah so is that thing cool to have but yeah if you're coaching yourself you have to be a lot more disciplined and you have to and especially in a situation where you're starting up a new gym like like JT is he might not have those higher level students yet like really put them through his paces so you have to be more creative with your trainee and you have to put yourself already at a big disadvantage so like sharkbait round yeah I would like really bad positions right off the get-go and uh that's sort of gonna give you that resistance that you'll need but it's not the same as having someone who's always high level versus when you're doing those type of training you're essentially bringing down your level but weaken your stamina yeah that you're still winning so you're thinking of fine yeah the thing is the guys are going against as I travel out it may make guys not to install any guys but most of them aren't good at digits well they think they are yeah you know all I'll scramble out of a triangle congratulations that does not make you good at anything you know but you're not being challenged in the same ways right yes having a coach 100% because a coach a good coach is gonna tell you what you need to hear not what you want to hear and having that guy really helps as school and classes in one way or another man that are a form of taking your energy and there's two key that can be very stressful too I remember like I was fighting in May professionally and I'd be fighting on a Friday and I'd be like teaching class Tuesday Wednesday sometimes cornering my students the weekend out driving to California coached him like driving back and then like cutting weight and all these things man it's like it's not ideal I'm not saying that that is the determining factor it works against your heart for Senators only thing I see teaching helps you is technically you get better yeah like you said you you learned a thousand ways to do something wrong quitter yeah your students are doing them yes know that you have to think too and you have to be able to they exactly think and problem solve because one way of teaching something is not gonna work for everybody so then you have to okay let me explain it this way and then you also sometimes learn the mechanics better yeah because you might be doing something that works great for you but then when you have to teach it you have to explain why it works yeah and then you're like oh okay by using this lever and you can and and and you confront yourself sometimes you're you have all belief in something or this something works in a certain way and then your student does something or challenges what you taught not in the disability but you look like what about this alright and then you're forced to rethink your own presumptions yeah so you ought oh there's a different way of doing this and that's happened to me more time like account where my students are teaching me without realizing it because no matter how much experience you have we all have blind spots I've been doing this exclusive my whole life I got tons of blind spots and sometimes like a blue belt will expose me and going what about this oh wow I never thought about that and that happens and that's all though that happened you're grateful for the self yeah you're still learning as a coach so the coaching is all these things and I think JT does have this extra weight on his back because of that but he's still one of my top four yeah yeah he's a serious guy - he doesn't have some I know he has a young black belt there you just got promoted it's really good to get his waist he's butchered your name my bad but he goes by the IG handle Kim or rap star okay I got shot at the second free to use it alright our next one Ross Nichols from the United Kingdom I don't know him I can't like a lot of good guys in Europe that I don't know but he's from Roger Gracie's Academy first European trial winner John earthen I've been watching him compete since he was a purple belt he's a marcelo garcia guy american trial winner and we were just talking about how highly competitive the american trials were he he's a solid guy yeah he's definitely I saw the guy I named to watch out for he's a part of like the young American the new American generation he's got the black looks like a few years now but always competing a high level he hasn't won a little tight or anything at the black belt level but he's one of those guys it's always like right there like he's a fight or two away he'll lose to the current champion by you know little so it's these guys that even though they may not be favorites like Luca slippery and whatever like we were just talking these guys you can't this guy might be his day like it's yeah you know you get John says the table walks in there and it's his day and I walked in a TCC open I wasn't the favorite very few people were to put the money on me but it was my day and I think if I fought that tournament a hundred times I probably would have wanted 99 I was just like that day was every the stars align you know sometimes these things happen and you never know number four John Combs now John Combs I want to talk to him a little bit he visited my gym as a blue belt eight years ago seven years ago he was walking my brown belt spots like he was just all like I did not have a guy that day in the gym to beat him he show up at night as a blue belt very respectful it's why I liked him right away because you can see he was very talented very athletic you know good solid jujitsu trains out of mall East and Colorado very humble kid and he was kicking butt like the kid was all over the place he fought the trials max almost beat him I say that no max was not Adam in two submissions yes and the thing is not to take credit from John in any way max barely knew a TCC rules when he went in there he's kind of use a blue belt like I'm gonna go and he won a three four fights lost to John combs who end up winning the whole tournament the whole trial and by very very close I think max got caught at the end because he gassed out there was no preparation leading upwards like some like John called with some of these other guys they are prepared for a tease to see their whole lives yeah like that's like the pinnacle of their career right this is a probably the biggest term in John's ever competing is about computer so there's a preparation max it not but he had a war with him and was a very good fight but John is in my opinion one of my top five American grapples in the world today like I I really had like a soft spot in my heart for him because I've seen him come up and very humble kid very talented he had a war with cyber Kenobi worlds I think they fought to a draw a cyborg winner of the ietf Grand Prix of the open from memory I think it was a draw in cyborg one decision but he was going at it with cyborg man so it gives you an idea where this kid's levels at yeah and just like John said to thought man it's like one big name to contend with like this kid could be you know could be like the it could be his day yeah you know everybody's human there's nobody a better face that was a superhuman or like oh there is no way no more like I ever compete with like everybody he gets nervous everybody can have a bad day or they're gonna have a good day so if you're in the tournament you got a chance well every Superman's got his kryptonite - yeah you got a weakness yeah and is funny because like even like superheroes like when I say superhero like I kind of mean like the guys ask rapper of all time up in his Roger Gracie he had his Achilles heel - he had guys he had a really hard time beating you know like everyone no matter who you are there's someone out there that has your numbers of style that your style does not match up with like and I and I love this about you just because it really only goes back to termini we're talking about but gain the style yeah you're in luck your own look the word is unlucky because you're not responsible for picking the bracket and then you get a bracket that has every person who matches your style word doesn't and that's gonna play a big role if you're gonna make it to the final or not sure so we have max Serbia Tulio servio is Phillippi pent-up Ricky says we had him here for episode 1 it's his main training partner in Brazil so you won the Brazilian trials really saw that he had been watching him for a while same cat away he's like that I he's not that tier number one of the elite of the division but he's up there yeah you know he's he's the kind of guy who could potentially beat any one division he's very young recently promoted black belt trains with Felipe Panna who was like top three in the world you know easy I would put him right in that category just like you know below the top four but he could potentially be anyone same thing camera that's interesting I know he's an MMA fighter I was just training with him in Poland actually was a Mike camp at the at Maya and uh Guinea as I was teaching the camp there he's always been coming to my camps in Poland for some years now and he's an MMA guy just like one of those guys is very talented he's like to me about toes is one of those guys if you decide to be a soccer player or like just about anything he would have been just like that kind of guy she's a very athletic gifted individual and he won the trials hold it up second he's won that for the second trials right yes second rupee and trial yeah very good wrestling very athletic he's not as if he's one of the least-experienced I think in terms of grappling because he's Cassie he's a KSW champion yeah or was the Chamonix I think still the champion though and so it's a different kind of experience you know but I mean if you one of the trials in Europe he's definitely up to the task if I faced anyone in the bracket so that's another prospect then next you have up and gals which has done definitely come up about and I remember him because in 2017 I was coaching Kitale and Craig Jones and dials were all in the same room trained together and there was I think it was his first NEC I could be wrong but they were all nervous because they were and they all had tough matchups like had a move of a home from one should we call it Craig Jones had what's his name low low yeah under low and then he had JP Taurus and he actually lost the jttours by a think advantage or takedown in overtime yeah in the first round and then JT ended up winning the whole thing yeah so think one of those things with man is this a tough matchup could have been a final right yeah he was ranked 16th seed I guess to be matched with JT or I'm not sure where Joe a hundred percent I think Lachlan I I know I'm from Australia like I've never trained with him interact with him much but like I've known through you know calm friends we have in common but he started as a coach like he was known as a coach you know and then he started competing doing better I remember one time I was coaching Rafael over at EBI and he beat Ronnie yayah whose former ADCC champion a little be fair ronnie was not did not prepare you could see he was like he was gas like two minutes and it was not himself still in a this is he champion yeah and so that's another big name I wouldn't put him in like top four but right there with that second tier of like the elite guys in that division yeah like I think yeah anything especially he has he seems to have like a very leg lock oriented game and I'm curious to see how much because last ADCC I don't think it played that big of a role I think it played a role but that as big as people were expecting I think I suspect this ad says he's gonna be the same I think that the whole leglock thing is kind of like when bird bowls were really popular like six seven years ago when it first started people were killing it with it because no one knew what to stop me and then everyone go wait a second this is not rocket science there is a way and then you start learning and like okay this is what I can and can't do in the game it changes the whole game the bar is raised we have more tools that we had before fair enough our people at the ADC sea level gonna be surprised by those tools my guess is they won't like I think that it's not gonna be a determining factor although people who you know it's certainly an extra tool but I I still I still think we're gonna see more rear naked choke than he looks yeah that's a really good joke will not like make highlights the way you folks like that it's gonna be like the piece of the story that happened it's gonna be you know talked about even though the Rinnegan choke said they're gonna happen probably not gonna be as oh just another another rear naked children it's whether the glitches so to speak of the the ruleset whereas if you turtle do it matter what happened before that turtle it don't count as a point I could do a perfect double leg slam put your knee back and you turtle doesn't cover points so everybody escapes that way to try to avoid him and that's why guys have more selling exceeded this so well because he just has such a good back game that you just gave him he is very back in and I like that about all right first of all I think it should be point I think it's absurd that you're getting on top of someone's opposition or not awarding points that's one of the glitches we were talking about the other one is like the hawk strike four points a stack points are that's crazy to me but but like I think that the back take is still gonna be the most dominant submission their naked choke substantive stammen submission it isn't the key and it is a noogie and it is an MMA to me that speaks volumes about like hierarchy you're getting tired they're gonna start turning to their back as an MMA also yeah because you don't you we want to protect your face you turn your back yes it's what happens in every street fight it happens it in May it happens in jujitsu unless you remove points and then tactically that makes no sense so that was we were just walking over the leg locks and then okay here's another one of my top favorites because they're pretty like I'm big what was it pretty fan one of the best top games in the business the guy's a monster on top I've never trained with it but everyone who has is like mana guys like that like a bulldozer when he's on top you can see that like he's a very very dominant top player so yeah man he's he's I mean he's he's been close as never wanted he I don't think he has yes he's been close a few times so maybe this is his year and you have Magnum Rocha who taking the bronze last year he had a pretty good showing he's another guy who has a very good back attack game yeah it will round I train with the one eye when I when I was in Florida obtaining with Pablo preparing for a DCCC in 2007 he was one of our training partners he wasn't competing but he was we were training with him every day and night it was a really good camp I had a lot of fun that camp and I got to know him pretty well when good guy solid jujitsu I'm putting him top four people in that division yeah he's definitely shown he can do it he has again like I said one of the most important skills which is good back to you it's good yeah and he has that spades you know he's done really well recently and it's funny because he was competing and towards my brother and I were doing back like in 2000-2001 still active yeah yeah so we were doing grappling but he was a teenager back then yeah I mean so it's kind of cool to see that he's come all this way so yeah he took third last year I lost you ACC you said right yeah so yeah anything that happened he's a very experienced guy he's got a lot of solid training partners so he know he's well prepared that's a big thing it gets hard to prepare unless you have some elite guys to push you know we were talking about that and Vagner has that he trains with like cyborg and Miami lot a lot of solid guys no absolutely not next another kanuto exciting guy to watch I think he's like a part of that second tier - he's really young he's really experienced when it comes to IBJJF roles like you know because his father's a referee he knows how to you one of the best at manipulating the rules in his favor I've ever seen a TC that's that doesn't fly because a lot of those things are IDs uh they're glitches and IBJJF don't exist in a DCC so I think that hurts them a little bit I think that the flying armors are less surprising against Italy grapplers there didn't be expecting that so it's gonna come down to the rest thing I think he's done really good lately he's actually he's lost he lost the pen amps lost the worlds because I I don't I think he lost to a kid Eddie Cummings okay Eddie Cummings but why is it Eddie Cummings not in it I thought he'd be in here that's a good question this dropped off the face of the earth frame with the guy from unity I know that's one of the best camps in the world well I think that those guys from you in New York then I put them in top-5 camps in the world hands down what he wasn't done uh the meows and they they kind of think they they borrow that out the cease it'll cost formula from Brazil and just basically live on the mats you know you know yeah you know find like a bunch of like nineteen year olds who don't have a life have them sleep on the mats kill yourself on the mats two or three times a day that's that works man like that's yeah like they have a very solid camp so I would say I would expect to see Eddie Cummings in that in one of the divisions too bad he didn't make it pretty good she has a very dynamic style very I think it's fun to watch she's super fun to watch is he this yeah like everywhere when he was training with with us very good on the math but he rises to another level of competition yeah something one of those guys that moves up yeah and he seems like he gets a lot crazier hitting competition we just lots of well stuffs I could see potentially making a mistake by just being flashy or doing playing harm bar getting a minus point you know or yeah why not so I'm not sure how familiar he is with the rules or you know I think you train specifically and those but uh I mean he definitely has the skills to know I think he's definitely named to watch out for I think that walking in there though people we'll be less and less surprised by a lot of the things because here's the thing about the flashes stuff is that they're fun to watch but I think efficiency is always you know priority for when it comes to winning efficiency is always gonna be the most important thing and these things are less than less surprising the more you do them well you know yeah I think the other thing that might work against him is that he has what they call it a fast and loose style yeah right where it's not very control oriented he's very finished oriented yeah which makes him excited to watch but very especially for like a rule set 80cc unique control units I was thinking about how you need to you you want more of a slow tight game yeah you know to be able to especially since journaling is such a factor yeah you know so I think they're very flashy it hurts it hurts it hurts um I think that especially division with guys like Lukas lepree when he gets on top of you man there's not a lot of flashes to go around like you're stuck in front of them you know gear nogi Lucas gets on top and you're gonna have a hard time moving you know and he's shown that time after time after time yeah that's another prospect who is with the other ones Oliver Tolliver tazza out of Canada Tristar he trains with hazard graces yeah obviously exchange of messages with a few times and on whatsapp like we have a few friends in common but I've actually never met him train with them but I'm assuming if he comes on that camp you would have like a probably League oriented game that'd be my guess but I've actually never seen him compete likewise I can't I can't say I've seen him could be either if I just know that he's part of that camp where he changes them next we have Edwin Dungy who is another very fan favourite yeah but he's a thing Edwin is one of those guys he's fan favorite and you would say always shouldn't be invited cuz if everybody know he's that good though like he definitely needs to be in there like he's he he's passed out throws like I'm just a fan favorite now he's proven that he's an elite elite competitor very exciting to watch as well very dynamic articulate yeah see if I can make a match up I'd like to see him out though versus him I think a lot of people want to see that matchup I think that a guy like Edwin though has the advantage of having a lot of solid training partners you know like um you know he doesn't have the problem of not having like guys that can challenge him he's good he gets challenged every day by guys like home about how Victor Saverio I think Philippa pan is probably I don't know if you doing this camp there with home blow buddies my who else we have wor Gees by the way is not in here just notice that who else a lot of good guys said you know he's got he's definitely challenged every day from what I hear he's just one of those guys that's like incredibly talented he doesn't put in the time at the end with the other guys put in but he just that he's just one of those guys that's just that gifted you know he again one of those guys could practice any sport and would have been incredible yeah you know very very athletic very articulate I'm gonna go with him my fourth favorite in the division that's gonna be my fourth pick there but yeah celsa Vinny suits from Gracie bar very very solid competitor I've been I think when I won the worlds in the game he won that same year lightweight division we're going to I'm pretty sure he was uh he wouldn't oh the middle or the lightweight division I can't remember now very solid half guard he's an older guy man but very experienced like he's Bordeaux student very solid half guard like he I mean he took bortles game to the next level I remember like I always claimed that Lucas lady had the best half guard in the wall and then he fought the self civilians as a few times and I was like oh this is the class of who's good class who's gonna have the best half guard in the world you know but I think Vinny's shoes would normally beat Lucas he just managed to get bottom somehow and then Lucas couldn't pass and that'd be that because whoever winds up on bottom normally wins if you have that style but itself is a very solid competitor I'm gonna come back he didn't compete for a few years he just made a comeback a few years ago so I'm compete against so former students a Rico cocoa and actually got him in a really wicked guillotine put him to sleep oh wow I'm like that's not an easy feat this no he's uh he's a very experienced guy world champion and believes in a TCC vet as well who else we got we got DJ Jackson yeah if you want to talk about crushing pressure DJ jacks is solid wrestling so you guys like DJ Jackson have solid such a great standing in place that you need to see because of the wrestling right like they have that that experience and we see no he fought half I don't mean goes when we fought the we commentate for the black go to be thing and I was wrong I was you know advising a half-hour on how to fight Jackson I was really worried that how far has a very loose articulate stand-up gain like he did some judo and he was younger but DJ with that short little stance at his and like that it's such a powerful wrestler it's hard to get it was a difficult matchup for a guy like half there's more of a loose kind of like relaxed hafiz work works really well against jiu-jitsu players not great against high level wrestlers because a high level wrestler is not loose and relaxed he's like tight readiness you like exact impact kind of exactly so that's how he beat him so I could see that happen against other opponents yeah then you have it's now Gary tonin Gary tonin and of course I mean he's kind of again another one with the leg locks a little bit looser less less more predictable now than he would have been two three years ago I believe I think is more doing more MMA now so that hurts him a little bit because he's a little nice but there's no way he's putting a lot of energy into his hands keeping his hands up and not getting taken down there or like not like fighting on the fence I mean so there are elements into his training that didn't exist that though these guys are focus on he says you don't have to worry about so that's a disadvantage but again a very dangerous opponent just surprised a lot of people you never know also like young generation coming up very excited to see him and like he could be he could surprise a lot of people and we got a lot of us people go here still a long podcast we're gonna go name by name here out of a June ski I know him well this guy have known him since he was he's incoming mic camps in Poland very solid butterfly game he recently has a victory over Lee under low and the geek but sales they went all the way under Louis he's never been that great of an OB player I think everyone knows that right but uh beating them in the key is very very significant for sure and I've trained with Adam like he he's legit man he's very good he's got he's like one of those guys that kind of has his his own thing like he's got a butterfly again I thought I had a good butterfly game and then like Adams like a whole new level he's very difficult to fight if he's very good sucking you into his butterfly you think I'm just gonna stay out of his butterfly right like you can't like he's forces you to fly you there let's see how he's gonna translate nogi I think that's gonna be you know you won the trials in Europe but again trials like we talked we talked about it's hard but it's not a DCC a whole different ballgame and by the way we're in the idiot I'm sorry yes a da Cuba division which is that's some some big names there still but I think I feel like we lost some some things I just felt that real large that's how I thought he wasn't in there he is in the Adrian kilo the vision I can't think of a DAT with a vision for some reason but we'll talk about him down the road Alec balding you know who that is I know the name of Cena things videos of him instructions but I haven't seen him compete you want one of the u.s. trials so it's tough and then you got Josh Josh finger or also North American trials Josh wanted like another fan favorite like I think you've drawn to Joshua like he's like a nice guy everyone likes him he's got very easy to talk to guy doesn't have a big eco vicious guillotine you know like he's done really well and I remember watching him ACB he was doing really well otto's so solid camp this guy's gonna be like he is like he is being challenged by some of these move the best grapplers in the world i think josh is like one of the top and plot picks in this division i think like III think he's up there he could surprise just about anyone then you have Gabriel ma de abril Maeda trying to put a face to him I know the name they had a lot of new guys there is I think this division is probably the thing the most open they've seen so yeah it's a lot a lot of news I don't recognize they new guys right like doesn't say a thing about their skill like it could be the best guy in the vision I don't cuz it unknown doesn't say much and there isn't the defending champion either the current champion is Gordon Ryan right he moved up so there's no current champion who else we got or the for second place either yeah so that's why I feel this is a very open division area opening company take someone like - ginger who's obviously really well skilled already battle-tested yeah definitely come in there and tell you Ben Dyson same things the killer locks so D same thing guys you don't we don't know these guys it doesn't like wit doesn't so much I got me absolutely incredible surprise everyone we've seen that before but like I there's only so many you just determines you can follow and watch a lot but like I there's no way you guys know we're not just I'm sorry oh yeah we have a life outside of digits as what we're trying to say who watch youtube videos all day but it's and if you want trials you're in there man like you're gotta be an elite guy Craig Jones more familiar name known Craig Ferguson she was a perfect oh he's been visiting the gym he comes in and trains with us he's always had like he's like one of like those really solid guys in the ghee that was right there he'd win and he lose like some tough matches and tournaments and then he just made this transition in oogie and he just excelled I think I was like his call and was really like the the game he developed for himself so he's the guy that a lot of people are excited about watching I think he's one of the biggest prospects and division for sure specialize in leglock right Dave so the question is can he is the league loggia gonna be the deciding factor for like this division could be to be still be I'm sure people are preparing for it yeah for sure then you got Rustom Jesse off I don't you see if Jesus yeah I'm sure with all the butchering that sorry he's been in the game for a long I never you know can't pronounce his last name but everyone knows we were talking about solid rental I think Musha shot when he fought on him and saying like that like I tried everything to sweep this guy absolutely nothing worked and I could be wrong maybe was talk about a different Russian guy but I remember I think it's this and then he went like I went bump sweep from close guard it's like the one that's the one that worked and like that but I could be talking to talking about someone else I could be could be wrong but I think he's talking about him because he's such a he's like one of those wrestlers that he's not a finisher right he's not known for putting people away but how do you score points on a guy who can out wrestle you is like a bear and he just like sits in your Varney camp maybe is impossible I'm not one to talk like like Dave and Ruth's Tama like a whole new level man it's like a whole new breed of Harry right there Mike Perez very smart competitor I've seen him do really well I think he beat Craig and a very like probably wasn't was exciting match in the world but he'd be Craig a while ago not the most exciting fight when he beat Craig I think it was like a lot of like staying away from what crazy League game which kind of makes sense to me yeah I guess like walking like oh you're stalling not one and running into my heel hook I'm like no [ __ ] I'm not running into your heel look like what do you expect me to do yeah but the guys a lot of times they have to be more aggressive I remember Gordon at the noogie world's he was like literally but scooting across the mats chasing people and very few people engaged his guard like it was it was like they were like really like just walking back the whole time like almost everyone he competed against so yeah that's sort of strategy I'm not so I'm not sure how ATC is gonna be as far as penalizing that but if that happens I think that a decision should be penalizing people left right and center watching like Gordon nogi world I would have been penalizing those guys a lot faster my for disengage because like the guys but scooting towards you like sometimes like they'd have to circle the mats not to get cornered because like going were like literally but scoot across the Matteson the difference in passivity or stolen calls the compare sport like juju suit versus wrestling is night of day I remember because when I was already a few years into doing Emma Mayen Jiu Jitsu I'm a burn hey you know what we should just jump in a grandpa I'm a wrestling tournament yeah just for shits and giggles you know so we went in and my first match we touched hands full ready and I just backed up a little bit let me call I was like right yeah but literally just by taking a step back maybe they want intensity right off the gate I say Jesus like you have to be constantly pushing an attack I like that I think that teaches IIb did Jeff has been much much better about this like you people think all they're stalling you have no idea how bad it was 20 years ago when I first started competing on you Jeff it was like really bad you get away with just about anything they've been really good about penalizing people disqualify people I hope ADCC maintains that standard like disc will penalize them disqualify them if you have to teach the other competitors a lesson problem is the matches are too long that's why you get stolen I'm convinced it's a stalling has more to do with how long the matches are then actually all the combat competitor is like strongman you make it sometimes 40 minutes long I would you that's not a superhero man like what you want to do you know things have helped one point if you get pushed out of bounds is I think the most frustrating thing to see is someone scored a nice takedown or the guy just backs up and ends up out of bounds yeah and then they owe nothing so what's gonna happen there's no penalty just keep running on a bounce or every time someone gets to take down ban aboutabout yeah if you make it where the guy who pushes you out gets a point now what's gonna happen is you're not gonna want to get pushed out of that yeah so what's gonna happen either you're not a circle or you move it to the guy yeah and when people are getting closer together that's where takedowns happen Yeah right like it's in wrestling that's why some people who go from like wrestling in it to MMA like it's hard to score takedowns of the guy because they can back up whenever they want yeah there's no installing calls in yeah you know it's much easier to take some of that when you're forced to stay within six inches of each other yeah absolutely you can disengage yeah the stolen gets I like that I think I that's why I like the cage is so important for fighting because now you don't have a out of bounce you know so you get stuck in the wall now it takedowns gonna happen there too but like an grappling how to balance is like a free pass oh all the time yeah all the end there's a really good way of acting like you're going out of bounds like acting like you're not trying to when you really are there's a lot of acting that goes on and it's like it's difficult to fix but cuz people fake there's nothing you can do about that don't be flat one point take a lot of bounce out of them so I don't care what's going on so they have to be you have to be conscious that's the other thing though there are people there were literally like sumo wrestling their opponents out of bounds it was like in the heavyweight because it used to be like that anytime you've stepped out of bounds you were penalized but then the guy to get like these especially the old trial heavyweight division they would like sumo wrestling out of bounds and the guy was like 80 80 pounds lighter go like what the hell you want me to do he's grabbing my gear pushing me out of bounds like him stop them guard yeah I know the criteria they have now I think it's a good solution they go whoever's trying to take the fight out of bounds gets penalized so the guy who's trying just pushing if he's not trying to go for takedowns he gets penalized for pushing he has to be trying to take him down if the guy is circling out of bound alerts on anyone who is disengaging the fight is one penalizing so it's a similar criteria to wrestling but I think the rest is just a lot harsher like the rest of your describe is it's like boom like really fast negatives or is in IBF at least they're not they're not that fast right they allow a little bit like in my opinion at least in the nogi worlds they were allowing it way too much if you ask me yeah I hope that ADCC analyzes them more like that is in wrestling you know I think I mean you could just second name tons of matches where there's so many other balance that happened yeah it's like if you would have been scoring takedowns at least giving one point this match would have you determined in regulation yeah I mean but like every time someone Falls all bounds or they've run out of bounds I know I feel like you would just make this sport more exciting yeah and you would also get more points on the board also because nobody likes watching a 0-0 match going to triple all the time yeah that's boring no I understand like no I think long matches don't make it better like everyone thinks that the longer the match the better I don't I don't think the fans like it the fighters I know they hate it yeah I've never met a fighter says I can't wait to fight a 40 minute long never heard that yeah I think 10 minutes pushing it you ask I always argue if I'm too gentle you should make the matches like eight minutes long max like seven is problem I prefer number I think anything beyond that is just it's gonna slow it down there's no way out I'm sure yeah no you can't sprint you know it's funny I got a lot of time the promoters the people who are in charge of making these rules they're practitioners but not competitors yeah so in their mind oh you should just train harder because you're not doing anything else just train already be in better shape and it's a complete denial of your physiology and how how much you can push your body it's not a matter of will it's a matter of you cannot go a hundred percent for ten minutes straight and no one can do that even your if an amazing it sound a matter oh I'm gonna train harder your body can't do it your body like you you need in every sport is the same way but there's an expectation for Fighters to move around like crazy for ten minutes non-stop we're in a TCC case twenty minutes and it's just completely unrealistic yeah there's the guns yourself of course it's too much you know it only people will compete and understand this people that are just you know practitioners or observers like just fans of the sport they look oh you just got a train harder they trust me they train hard enough that's not their problem it they are one of our favorite guys if not if not the favor in the bracket definitely the funniest you know I still I got I do like I just don't like send it to my friends like that that one video you did of like the the self-defense against like I got like the rubber penis she cracks me up every dive senior like 20 times it's still hilarious to me that such a great guy very charismatic tremely talented yes he's got a very tricky he's got a few yeah all the time yeah he very well-rounded grappler I think like we were talking about people that don't have that hyper focus I know he's gotten hacked in careers like about to take off and he's got like some and it was involved in like a number of different projects I worry about too that like him being spread a little too thin cuz I know exactly what that's like it's kind of what I did to myself to lay yeah let me get involved in a hundred operations here and try to win in every single thing you know it's just not realistic I worry about that a little bit as far as talent goes kid is one of the most talented people I've ever trained with it's very very gifted he's super talented for sure and I think that you said a promise is he well prepared for this as well I'm sure he's prepared but compared to someone like I mean try think my name as some of these guys been preparing for this yeah since they start train to Jitsu this is their dream like they've been dreaming of a DCC you know so it's the competitions up against our people that have put more time and energy into this preparation that he has over the last few years right and that's the part that concerns me is not his ability to win or his gift is about the will to win it's based on how much work you've put out you know I guess you don't have to be the best fighter in the world to win fights if you have a good game plan and you have the will to win at a certain point this comes to will like who's gonna fold yeah who's gonna give up a key position just because they've taken too much damage or they just didn't know and and and and I think that any cc allows you to cardio people out because it's so long I think that's the other thing I think 82 see sometimes it's like because I'm actually can be so long it's the best athlete who wins yeah you know and the thing is like when I have this discussion with IBD Jo because I'm always arguing with them trying to make the matches shorter right and they're like oh but then the more technical guys gonna win if the match is longer I'm like I think it's the opposite the other guys getting with a lot the longer the match goes the more the better the odds of the more athletic guy winning yeah the longer times they work essentially you're testing on endurance it's enduring and a lot of that is like it's not just your will a lot of it's just not your preparation a lot of is just some people have a higher count of red blood cells big or heart or vascular eyes muscles they had they're genetically more gift in that so when you make it longer you're actually putting the ball you're given an advantage to the people who are more gifted first I think it's less fair even if this shorter match you would be to have a better display of who's who's better well yeah I make a more intense right just by nature of it like you said oh absolutely we're gonna do either a 30 minute running contest or we're gonna do like a three-minute running contest wait a minute what's gonna be sprints yeah hauling ass will be exciting 30 minutes or like man would pacing yourself running a 30-minute pace anything I could have not said it better like it's exactly what's happening so if you're expecting a 40 minute sprint you're out of your mind that's not gonna happen do it no one can sprint for 40 minutes they're gonna jog yeah any best runners in the world got a job ya know and if you see some of all he looks like he's sprinting he's running 30 minutes super fast or whatever he could run faster if you put him in 300 100 percent he just running faster than me and you yeah horrible runner but like you know that's not his sprint like it's just fast for the most humans when I went to face Sanjiv arrow yeah I went into it going I'm gonna beat him in double overtime cuz I saw he's bigger than me stronger I can outlast ethnical but I can carny him out you know and that that's perfectly fit strategy really right it is a fit strategy by the same time that's a that's a boring match I mean yeah it's one of victory house pronto because it was beating he was number one yeah jiu-jitsu jiu-jitsu practitioner in the world I mean the guy I think he had just come from the winning the open weight class the year before they need to see that year ya know he won his division anyone Division II what he brought you in the final that was my division okay yeah yeah so he did win and he was like a current and I open wait I've did you have world champion I believe I'm probably just beating something like that man thanks a lot but like I don't feel like usual anybody watch that match you like goddamn please forward the hell no but there's no way out of it yeah and so yeah I think shorter matches are the way to go right or the five-minute match it's maybe a spring it's plenty of time good all right Murillo Santana one of the best coaches in the world in my opinion you know representing every presented by boza but he's a head coach of unity which is ironic he's representing Barbosa but you also solid guy definitely spread thin with a whole coaching thing probably teaching a lot of classes and like these guys are is a disadvantage in my opinion because they got more to worry about right yeah but very soccer I had the opportunity to train with them in Brazil I didn't know he was I remember like we weren't Brasil's like really like at that point is probably no one team in the world and he walked in with him at Damien Mayas gym and I had no idea he was never seen before because he hadn't competed like he was not a competitor he's he's a brown belt was he Brown a black can't remember no and I remember training with him like holy cow was this guy this is super good like and then I saw Damien going with him as like oh I didn't I did good actually like he was going toe to toe with him back and forth I'm like wow man this guy's legit and then he didn't join the team because he was a yamazaki student and he wanted to compete with a brazo patch and a Yamazaki patch and we were like everyone hates that but you can't play for the Raiders in the Patriots man like it's just the nature of every sport and you people people think it's ok to just all no politics I'm like how can you represent two teams man and we liked him who wanted him on board but we kind of put our foot down you know if memory serves me well that was a reason why he didn't join and I think Barbosa was ok with it and then that's why I started training with Barbosa you know but so we lost a really really good guy but uh one of the best coaches in the business in my opinion man he's got got a good shot but I wouldn't put him the top four prospects for the division you next we got Gabrielle largest I really thought he would be in the 77 killer division so it was probably the lightest guy in there but yeah you you know Gabrielle you seen him compete another it's super tough guy yeah man Gabrielle are jeez like he comes from a strong camp very solid guys could surprise anyone we have next my toes Denise I know Gabriel could be a Gerber burns he's my favorite I'm sorry I'm just gonna have to say now just cause he's Zenith but he's I think it's the most complete grappler in here manly yeah all around his ready game is also not crazy gone done like he's like like high-level wrestling his only disadvantage is the same one that some of these other guys are dealing with like they're spread thin like he's fighting ma he's fighting the UFC but I think that his grappling and he's done extremely well against guys are good at leg attacks I don't want time you fought Gary Tony was all over Gary he was destroying Gary then he got and that that's coming from a guy that didn't quite prepare for a tournament for that fight like he's just like fight MMA oh I'll take a fight because he's that guy he'll fight anyone anytime anywhere if he gave this tournament preparation I think he did cuz I've been following him and I see him training with cyborg all the time I know he's had a solid camp preparing for this I'm gonna put him as my favorite next to those though you know next to uh with the other ones that I chose they Adam Josh I think right now I'm looking I'm looking at Craig I think Gilbert Gilbert I think just because he's I mean I liked him too because he's done more trap to the UFC yeah like yeah no I never said man like no he's well-rounded yeah like this is really strong I heard watching him when we're doing the type of CBD and he I wrestled DJ which is no small feat in the same wrestling game plan to they were both doing the same thing just i-i've been um I strongly believe that if you have that sort of blast kind of game the shorter guy that's a huge advantage mirror because how'd you get underneath the guy like DJ's built like a like a barrel man he's like like short and stocky super explosive but yeah you're right Gilbert out wrestling so that confirms what we've been talking about is how the rest is a deciding factor so many of these matches right has to do with a lot of how difficult it is to sweep and finish from the bottom and noogie at the high level yeah because every time you swept what happens scramble yeah it's so hard especially in a TCC where do I vote exactly when you turtle up that's not even points yeah you have to practically pin your opponent down to score two points bottom game is not the way to go any DCC I think it's very very standing oriented and even the lighter divisions I think we're gonna see this this upcoming UFC alright my toes your knees everyone knows what else super tough opponent um one again it could surprise anyone who's really well noogie he just beat Josh finger Kassite very close fight Josh was talking and telling me about I think he do it for a flying armbar landed on his neck knock himself out for a split second when he woke up like I think Denise Ida had his back or passes but I didn't see the fight but josh was telling about he's like I don't know why I never jumped a flying arm or in my life I'm like probably not the right time would set one the time and place go for your first flying armbar probably not you know and like you know cuts I against my dozy knees but they're very solid competitor John Blanc 10th planet I know he actually taught a seminar at the school at Bethlehem ok Pennsylvania yeah he recently won the EBI are it was a EBI but with the open hands the combat and a really good attack game all around so be interested again like I said I don't think he's ever competed in a roll set like this before they're at a disadvantage like these guys because they prepare for a system that doesn't have points right so someone passes your guard why would you turtle up it makes no sense stay flat on your back so that's a disadvantage they're facing but you never know you can always surprise someone Mason faller coyote huh you know him you want to America trial so the name rings a bell me like I'm sure if I saw these guys I'd recognize every single one but I probably like spoke them attorney like a hundred times but like it's just way too many people man yeah alright let's move up to the 99 Kuehl division guys we still got a lot of names to talk about below 99 I'm sorry no q-tip Bonin from Finland Timothy Michael Tim Tim Springs and Marina's Old Navy breaks he was at the Grand Prix recently he lost to the Hulk Lucas Barbosa yeah if I killed it with the wrestling by the way as a beautiful display of wrestling by Lucas he lost a cyborg it was windy gassed out cyber either side was the most conditioning person in that whole tournament for everyone seem to gas out but cyborg was the present for a heavyweight because you're carrying some heavy weights how long has been training fighting and the fact that this guy I know for a fact that he's busy cuz the gym owner on team although and it just adds the stress and stuff you're they're good for him man so props to cyborg Paul knew he was there I don't know that guy is meraz of doyen from Germany I don't know that guy either good pronunciation one more time for you guys the rest of the unit it sounds like it's my Russian accident guys German it probably I don't think I don't think this name is German though like he's somebody's from somewhere else alright go ahead and Ryan never heard of that guy before the most loved and most hated guy digit so at once but uh yeah he's he's the favorite division I don't know no there's maybe he's got his number sorry yeah yeah yeah maybe if if Gordon happens to meet Vinnie before the final it happens before Gordon may not even place because or Vinnie has Gordon's number because he doesn't get tap over unless Borden try something different this time good then you know that lowlifes don't work they don't work on him fresh personify like I've trained with Vinnie I'm like what's going on here man like this thing you know and then oh by the way you should never try to foot lock or armbar this guy cuz it doesn't work so it's that's Anatomy that's not toughness by the way he's just like he's got a huge joints and they're very flexible gift of nature man and he's one of my favorites just simply because he's such a good difficult guy to grapple with man and he's super explosive and dangerous so there's all that yeah I think with him but you said it's more just uh I would think more of a cardio company sometimes he gasses out and then or he comes up he kind of like deal is like the list or something shows up to eighty CC just wrecks people and yeah yeah it depends like they're not gonna be the same if you don't always get the same guy you're right some guys are like that they they're on and off with their performances Ben I know well been strangled the gym with us a few times good guys saw the guy tall lanky probably one of the least experienced ones in the whole bracket I believe this is his first ADC see ya so in a very stacked division so he's a tough it's a tough draw for him for sure but he is coming from now the up-and-coming camp there that absolute MMA think this might be the most competitive the in the whole tournament maybe looking at its little scary man logic collars on to move them 99 I know we're all over the list here but yeah so Ben Vinny Patrick gaudiya was definitely one of my top four but she had a very close fight against Gordon oogie worlds could have gone either way I think it's very underrated guy you know it's kind of like a not the most charismatic Wyatt does his thing but if you watch him man he's he could win this whole thing like he's definitely one of my top four very good wrestler very dangerous with foot locks well-rounded solid camp like I can't like I'm trying to find that Achilles heel in this if I very well win the whole thing Louise Penza Oh Lucas Barbosa when we spoke about him the Hulk yeah he's in there least Panza super you know same thing high-level competitor Jackson shows up spawns and Jackson both from check Matt training partners with elite competitors poorer dealer I don't know who that is Damon Dan is moved from the 77 kilo division to the 99 a jump is a big jump up Dylan known villain since he was a kid used to take Prime's me way back in the day and it was fun to watch him you know rise and did really well dive did you have circuit and then I've recently made a move towards anime and to a no no don't know - I know so yeah but when she's a very talented kid but he doesn't spread a little thin if you ask me what the whole I'm gonna hang out with celebrities and be like good at the same time and like I think that helps her career professionally probably more money that way but at the same time you're dealing with guys that don't have a life yeah like the all they do is train and focus on these tournaments you know so anyone forgot distractions is at a disadvantage but he couldn't very well surprise a lot of people he's a very talented kid I've had had the opportunity to train with him a bunch and he's very gifted there's no doubt about that you've got some nice Gotti's and he's an accomplished competitor you can't take that away from him well it's a stacked division I think ow really heavy - yeah it doesn't say I don't know how heavy is right now but I'm guessing he walks around like probably 85 kilos that'd be my guest cutting to make 77 88 Kela will be his natural division he's in a 99 kilo one so next one is my boy Phillippi Andrew I love Felipe man it comes from the middle like nowhere in Brazil would be like the equivalent I'm trying to think here like as country as it can possibly get in the US and kavacha in my opinion is one of the best coaches of all time while active elements but kavacha train Busha from white to black though every world title Busha one up to join check my was under kavacha and and he's doing the same thing for Philippian I think Philippe it might be the next big thing the kid is very young is like 22 23 I'm not just saying this because it's on my team but he's a very gifted kid very good attitude keeps quiet trains you know just focus on what's important we've competed that a submission only trimmin here in Vegas a while ago he didn't what the rules were like you like I'd never heard of that before you mean you can't pin score points they think what is this week is going on they do a lot of leg attacks on you like I'll bring it on he's got like vicious foot lock so he was just like sliding that you never trained you okay he was sliding out of him like there were nothing so I think he's a huge candidate to win the division but again this is one of the most competitive divisions in the history of it is to see if you ask me if not the most competitive execs you have Keenan Cornelia Keenan like fan favorite same thing customers a good game that works everywhere it seems to have a problem going against Gordon though so I think they might have a little Big Brother syndrome yes it came together too much Amy I think Keenan game maybe doesn't translate to well no because it's soul-g dependent I think that is a disadvantage for him but he's so good that he I wouldn't be surprised if if you want a voice routed for key Mike I think he's like one of those guy that's deserves that that big term like he's never wanted you to see he's never won a World close like he's exactly he's like right there all the time but just like you know so this would be like if you won the whole tournament I'd be very happy for them and I think that because deserving for as good as he is but like I said man this is the most difficult division you know like who they gain lined up with early oh yeah a hundred percent this bracket cloud reconnaissance a former eighty CC open weight champion I'm surprises in this division cuz he's not that heavy no yeah that's what he is such a difficult guy to do anything to why you don't see him get tapped very often you don't seem get point score on him like and that's his strong suit he's like he's not the most aggressive or exciting guy but it's kind of like that like that roofs tom guy you know what you doing you can't sweep him you can't take him down it's got a really good take down the fence granted he's gonna get some really heavy weights here so which might negate his I know he has a good wrestling game and also good wrist locks yes but like it's his wrist lock game comes from a lot of like attacks with the gear now I don't know how it's gonna translate but this guy's former a disease in which you can't count him out he may very well be you know the big-name division who knows you never know alright Dave should we move up move up away class gotcha ain't fair to say number one grappling in the world competing you know I still rank Roger number one below you thank you talking was I want to active I think it's so I was unfair with the lightweights always say this but if you count overall you have to give it to Busha he does not have an open way title I think the only that's the only thing this guy has not won yet and this may be his ear Eldar Rob you guys from Moldova also repeating tribal if I had to guess has got a solid wrestling background but I don't know Tex Johnston from unity we all know Tex you saw the competitor Nick Rodriguez and that's like the you win the trials new si given do you because it was a Bluebell or the trials there's so many people yes yes there's a saw it looks like extremely a flooded with a solid wrestling background the wrestlers always translate so easy and if he's gonna put that same hands up crazy camp on there I think we found applause and John down here so I'm sure they're putting him through the systems and then he's got a leg walk wins he I think he recently did he wasn't that saying it was in BJJ fanatics I think he's won the first match make you look and then the second mess it would draw but he looked to have a very top-heavy wrestling based game so yeah he his style will translate really well here it's it's like again he's probably the least experienced in the whole division I don't know how well these speeches in wrestling per se like I wouldn't know but as far as like submissions tournament goes like he's very inexperienced like that's definitely gonna be a disadvantage he's gonna get some you know really solid experience big names here but then we have on Tony Braga Neto who I know well I found twice former UFC fighter he is laced in the world actually won the world I think that year after I retired I think he want my division I believe he won the next year I believe 2008 9 he won he's a very very tough competitor man Mattel's just cool yuck you know what that is no I do not I wouldn't never do pronounce that yeah I'm gonna wing it NATO's youth school jock from Poland probably butchering his name but everyone pulling it stuff by the best grapplers in the world my bank um for Poland again very a lot of saltiness I said the lower ranking at the higher level you see some good ones yeah but when it comes to blue purple man to some the best competitors in Europe for sure I always seems like on average better than the US and Brazil on average because people in the US and Brazilian belts handling them way too easily in Poland like they're just like super strict on bells like sometimes I happen I don't see someone for two or three years I'm like man you're still purple like I thought you'd be a Brahman last time one or two three years ago by and they they really hold them back like that's what they're very they're very tough on the screaming process which is your most moist a favorite to two-time UFC a UFC beena ADCC champion super touch his wrestling has been a really bad I kiss - guys I'm giving you guys a tip if you're listening and you love noogie and you want to wait any to see one day I mean we're giving to you some good tips here man like this is the key to victory in the future is learning I said two skills like we already talked about one learn how to write so well to learn how to take that back in the tech world those are the two top ones I would die if I were if I had to pick two things to be absolutely incredible at will be take down some back take yeah that's all you need because if you take someone down in a TCC they're gonna try to avoid those points they're gonna expose everything throw up so if you know how to take that back well or just finish from there you're set man this division is stacked to Orlando Sanchez again a land is like the most exciting guy date but yeah how do you beat him like I just sweep this guy how do you take him down you know the AK is a tank of a man like what do you do cyborg also former openly champion of fairly verdict coming from a huge win the Grand Prix he looks solid at the Grand Prix man I would not be surprised if he took a division yeah I would say he would be my pick here although that's again top four look at this guy look look at this division that's crazy man like yes feasts buchecha before and that's how he won his absolute division yes again it was a cardio win right yeah he's done he's got a really good guy good kotecha started gassing yeah because they never happens because he faced him in though in the heavyweight division which I beat him yeah it was like a rematch in the absolute and then cyber beat oh yeah because again cardio so like cyborgs cardio is exceptionally well and jarred op super solid guy too good wrestler a lot of it rest for the vision I mean it's a heavyweight division can expect it won't grab no Hacha one of my definite top four he's an animal I don't like I was watching the Grand Prix he's got a very good defensive wrestling his offensive wrestling is not as good as his counter wrestle like he's the kind of guy you don't want to shoot on but if you don't shoot on em like not much else happens you know this match is like oh yeah I faced in the last a CCA did in the absolute division and I was like Jesus this guy's like a monster yeah once it's really happen just a break dude yeah that's a good guy kind undo Archie to life for that division if you ask me but a very solid guy Antonio Carlos jr. got it Zapata saw the guy also the UFC telugu was the Grand Prix he lost a cyborg little inexperienced in my opinion but like a huge prospect just got promoted a black dog like it's like 20 years old something like that huge like when the heavier guys in division yeah then we have Muhammad Ali always a big named former I'm you Jeff world champion always a huge prospect division John Hansen I [ __ ] know that name proper face to him don't know tonight this is again very competitive like you said division a lot of Champions in here between Orlando Sanchez Yuri Simmons Robert cyborg muchacha that's for Champions yeah man that's that's tough like that's it's as competitive as the one below but this is one of the most competitive division of a reason I think this has the most champions of any division it's true so I would say by those four champs who would be my top floor ok so let's move on the the women's division now the women's division you guys know there's only two of them and they have less in competitor so eight per division so there weren't three fights to win the whole tournament more familiar with the lighter one via mesquita one of the most accomplished female rappers of all time she's won a number of world titles Gina Bishop was talking to her husband at the last grand-prix were commenting together he was talking with about her preparation she won the North American trials friend CLE Nascimento son till I don't know who that is once I see her sometimes they Brazilians refer to as I could by by her nickname and then if I see remain oh she is livia muchos ska I believe that's I know yeah but she actually she was born in Poland but she grew up in Australia but she's competed for Poland so she s she wanted to repeat trials I'm not sure why she didn't do that Australian ones I'm sure there's a reason but she actually trains out of nowhere and with those guys rikako you US Japan I know rikako she I've seen her competing the guy can't put her face to her I know Bianca Baz Elia well she's very solid might want to be surprised took the whole division the Viera carpet and I actually did a seminar at their gym okay she had a really good performance in 2017 yeah and I think she nearly lost to Mackenzie there but it was like close she made like one tactical mistake that she could have ended up winning to match with but a really close match up and I you know she's one of the girls she said their team is associated with ten planet very okay she's I think she has a good shot at winning this based off her last before because she's savvy all-around good leg locks a lot of a lot of European women I'm noticing with formalin like this event has like very few American and Brazilian alone normally the two most dominant yeah and in the male division but the women's division you see a lot of a bigger variety I doubt you to pronounce her last name the next one how do you say that young was got two EPs it's gotta be a typo that's it that's when i fianlly to FC on babies okay baby okay alright they just saw she's been like I'm fighting I think with a Polaris and province and she's been winning her matchups so I'm gonna go with be a mosquito for this division though that's gonna be my favor I think she's the most experienced and probably the one with best shot at winning the whole thing here that would be my my my number one pick here how about you Dave she definitely has experience she's done it before so she would of course have to be the favorite I also throw in the era in there cuz she had a really good performance last time around - okay so in between ovarian and be over here on the break in the garb podcast let's get to our final division here Dave Gaby Garcia like thank everyone my god no way it's just too big but I know like some of these other girls are really big to me like tae-yeon eport fury she's huge I've seen her yeah but you know it's a Gabby's what do you do she is a German officer vision man and tie enemy's big but not as athletic as Gabby and that she alleys super technical Anna Karolina is one of my favorite you know yeah but like women watch but or she's like she's like to spy farther I'm gonna guess the smallest went division I don't know some of these other competitors like I'm under levy I don't know got in a son she I don't know Stephanie Edgar I don't know Jessica the silver I don't know Jessica and even zobelle maybe no I think I've seen her before but you know I think Gaby you agree David I think Gaby by just sheer size no I think that she is bigger than her oh yeah but Taeyang is just like wide big enough muscular big and then let's try to discredit Gaby at all I think it's also very technical as well but she's got the technique and the size and the experience she's got everything understand stupid athletic yeah Gaby is they're not taking it off the film anytime soon I don't think how do you I don't know maybe you put with the dudes streetcar like honestly man like there's a lot of like just so much hate I never hate her I actually admire her because I'll tell you why I remember when she was a blue purple belt back in the day in San Paulo she was that big she was bigger yeah but they're all she's on steroids no she was bigger before she's lean now compared how she was that same size but she had just like fat like all over the place right and she would little smash girls in the open she walk in the open like and just destroy everyone and the I'd remember have memories of this the entire arena would be booing her and she like I should be crying and I thought I'd find her crying his hands on my butt so sadly it's not her fault she's big what are you gonna do what do you want to do play like what he want to do like go be like a ballerina like she's gonna fight yeah and she's the best of the world then people are hating on her because she's big it's like guys she's winning like stop giving her a hard time man and people are gonna be booing her Dave it was embarrassing I hate it oh and you see all that hate people give her on by people are dicks total dick smell like what would you want her to that she's born she's huge it what are you gonna do it's in her division what are you gonna do why you hate it on her oh she's on the way she wasn't before and you guys were still hating on her it didn't make a difference you know I mean allegedly [Laughter] unless you've seen the positive test and that's and people always are rationalizing I hate that was already there people hated her way before the accusations so that's not the real reason the real reason people hate on her is because she wins because she's big what would you have her do go critic go hate her what would you want to do not train jiu-jitsu not compete she's winning so I I have a soft place in my heart for forgetting for that reason man like I admire her because a lot of people would have quit in her shoes which are not a hey she's back she didn't a woman everybody like taunting here making fun of her and listen to Alec even that's it's hard no you know that's not easy I think it's something more difficult for especially with all the pressure of the media and you know society puts a lemon to look a certain way yeah and she's not you know and she pushed through it man and she's still out there doing either so let you say God bless and she's the best in the world what she does man kudos you know like we should be applauding her like she made the most out of it you know she had a million reasons to like I'm not gonna expose myself and there she has exposure so that's hard man that's hard like that takes thick skin not everyone's meant for that like I know I don't like I wouldn't like it I don't I don't think I have thick skin like that I would I'd hate it in her shoes you know but you know she toughed it out and so I'm actually rooting for her yeah I think she bought her bunch of our support she does not care regardless laughs we left for the super fight Dave as the last one to talk about yeah we have current super fight champion versus current open weight champion I'm Filipino and I think I drink about the longest-reigning absolute champion and I use yesterday's one like three super nice no I just said UFC also you got me go this point I guess but yeah everything and your poly has the tools to do everything you know it's just good everywhere Andre was just here week ago he was in for the Masters worlds and he trained the gym I didn't train with him and him and Josh were Hoffy trained with them and yeah they're hot feet I saw some of the train with Hafiz will go and add it man it was a hangar Andre Jones is Gracie and there's someone else was in Bruno Frazetta they're all training and haathi was in they're going to war with them and it was fun to watch and you can see I admire under it for I don't think I've ever met someone that likes to compete as much as Andre like I never liked to compete Dave I force myself to compete because it was hard I wanted to do it because every Sun my body told me not to do it I'm like screw this I'm gonna do it you know like it was difficult like but like under in loves to compete he loves hoping he says it's good as last by ASUS your last fight he said yes it's my last fight I'm guarantee you is on money on that he's gonna come out I he likes to compete too much I admire him for being at the top for so long that's tough and in his case I honestly believe it's more it has to do with his resilience and more than anything because I've met guys who are more talented in it I've trained with him Italian Brazil but he's a very like like a very determined individual and I really admire that well he's up against Philly be Panna who is younger yeah probably a lot less injuries less to worry about more focused I would say overall probably more technical than under it and I think that the age might have something to do with that but under is a better wrestler if you ask me and if this comes down to a wrestling match I think that under my have might he might retire from eighty to see with a crown man which will be incredible yeah and that's where I'm seeing again we've talked about how important is you know and especially we're doing the guy it's a 40 minute match for the 20 years I think it's 20 and then they get the overtime but if they if he gets into exchanges and scrambles with Phillippi I think Phillippi will take his back I think if he gets this ice like get into a burning bowl game with Phillipe he's not gonna win he will be in a disadvantage I think under his key to victory here is wrestling yeah he has to keep it in the wrestling realm that's what he has a best shot and I think that's Felipe's Achilles heel of anything that's what he's weakest because Philippe is very dominant top and bottom back takes some fish and everything we've seen him get out of he looks like you know he Gordon had him deep in that honey hole and got out twice like he's a difficult guy to put away but I think if I had to pick like where would you want to fight Philippe you've been if you were to fight him like I think the best place to beat them would be wrestling yeah I think not that he's nice not bad but it's it will be his the weakest aspect of his game and I think Andre knows this so be interested to see how it plays out yeah I think that's probably gonna be the big determining advantage there it's just gonna be that wrestling game gavage this has a really strong recipe that good blast double legs and just a lot of for pressure he's not gonna gas at any movement you know when someone's running a wrestling game on you and you're they're receiving end of it you're getting I think under strategy for this fight might be to push kinda like your stride with Chandi yeah push deep waters and I think you're right cuz he's got really good cordial andris conditions always been very good to me I don't think I've ever seen Phillipe aghast now that I think about it maybe once the world's like last year you like a little little tired but I think they'll be the best strategy for under I think that's what is gonna try to do is push his fight for as long as it didn't possibly go he's faced a lot of dangerous submission guys reasons I mean he thought bobby was teaming when Yuri matched him and he this pressure to me that's like an backpack and I trim with under it a lot in Brazilian I can say this but you don't want to let Andre free he's one of those guys you gotta let no no stay right here cuz like if you let him moves like the Tasmanian Devil like he's the kind of guy you want to grab and keep him right in front of you the whole time like you don't want to let him do this right here because he's very earthy but suppose Phillippi you know under under scrambles or moves well but I think very DISA and I is like probably the nine hundred there man so if they make a dynamical be fun to watch yeah then just from our last interview with Philippe how you just kind of impromptu came up with that roll off the honey hole escape that's hit see something I'm sorry I'm watching I can barely do it man and then this guy that coming up with on the spot like I'll just and it tells me so much about how P we learned you just so we learned you Jitsu by a lot of time just followed our instincts and improvising it's not like I'm gonna go to bed and think about a move and I think that's like boo doomed to fail most of our the true knowledge we acquired through our journeys is through experience I think that Philly PD pulled it off when he really that that that escape out of nowhere was to me one of the most amazing yeah transitions and I've ever seen in all digits oh man it was in his position that's his position to so kudos no lets you want to recap this quick so if you just skipped that's a lie it's a long podcast but they were out of it Mike we want to make sure we talked about everyone is yes we could we know some of the competitors better than others but we wouldn't think it would be fair to when we talk about like that the favorites so we try to be anybody there that we know you know so I think 66 kilo division we said the top four I was to Mendez who did us he said Jamal Hill Jamal Hill I think I said boo Nafissatou Rosato I'm their number four I don't think we put it in before you see I will pull my now go ahead pick one you know I'll go with some young blood Kennedy Kenny I don't johnny greet them with one of those two that's high with between Kennedy and Johnny about let's say Jenny because he's got the experience you know okay who else somebody go guys this division 77 kilos JT JT for sure lepree that pre Rocha yeah and I'm gonna go with najimi last I don't know if you have a different opinion this one but like I go but Dobie my for yeah that's a solid 4i yeah I I have a soft spot in my heart for DJ because I've trained so much with him yeah I know and I know he if he executed right he could pull it off yeah but stacked division we honest Activision I will say the 88 kilo one is the least stacked I said it's not stacked but it's the least stacked is the most open because I guess yes there's no champion yeah or second place person in here so here we had Josh Craig Gilbert and Wilson we pick I think we picked those three are safe for for maybe Mateus Mattel's maybe Gabrielle larges could be kids all good people in there I Adam I've trained without a man he's legit I know how good he is so any of those guys would be top four I'm gonna go 99 kilo go Dave grunting Ryan Vinnie I think in Barbosa and the fourth one they said trickier pick here and I know with I'll lean towards Keenan before he's placed twice I'm gonna okay I'm gonna have different pick here for my division call me biased if you want but I'm gonna put throw Philippi and render because I know what he can do Patrick Gaudio Vinnie and the most annoying guy and all of grappling Gordon Ryan I actually like him I don't dislike actually it's phenomenal it just talks way too much that is not my cup of tea either Brad you can't do my house ideas let's let's let's separate the skill from the persona let's just do you're gonna matter wine and not am I all right the 99 Cuba Division Marcos Busha who do not put them in the top four so we can almost skip that one ud yeah cyborg yeah I agree I agree with those three who's the next one I think well it would be between Joe Orlando I think Joe I'm gonna be a hot shot or the other one what's your the one event of Sanchez or Orlando I agree yeah just depends on the draw you know a man or land I think out of all these guys the one I'd be leasing quite 100 fighters I kick off the game plan Tom do boss yeah it was against okay every single one of these guys I can come up with a game plan that I would maybe lose but I know the game plan was right against Orlando I have a hard time coming up with a game plan cuz I don't know what to do what do you do like we can't take him down you can't sweep them you just hope to win a decision yeah you know it's okay the juggernaut yeah absolutely you need something magical to happen Dave that was uh that was talking we had a women so women we agreed on BIA do we agree yeah I'll say go - okay and then we review that's right there was a Veera and then the above 60 kilo Gabby Gabby and I decided to pick another will be not CLE but what are you saying I don't know what you got anywhere else you know I'll say Emma Karolina is my favorite one but like I just can't see her out wrestling these big girls man like it's gonna be too difficult yeah you know unless you had like Olympic caliber rest I know because I pulled it off all right and which in the ending is she beat Gabby that's right I know should be doing the gig at Abu Dhabi pro maybe I did not see they see but I believe in the absolute division she had one got a backache there we go okay Andre go phones through beep and it would be like 4951 cutting man I get could go either way like I'm going with maybe who just because he's younger and hungrier ah but golf ball has the edge on the experience and the wrestling and I feel decisions whatever it's up a decision the referees the judges they lean towards the current champ yeah there's a that lean I don't I don't know if sure I feel so especially during that Elena's fair if you ask me but I think that he might win if it'll go with a decision like that especially if he's gonna be putting a wrestling game he's more in doubt only does he look better so let's see what happens we got two weeks ago I hope you guys enjoyed this episode this is episode 6 it will not be the last we got many more to go or
