would schedule something last night you know and then I did not reply to Dave Dave's like Rob what we doing this or what and like I finished my name 8th class like Oh rush over so thanks for that yeah good to be here just busy as always yeah yeah getting ready for a trip to Tahiti it's guys living the dream life who's just talking about like asking Dave if he wants to switch lives we're talking about the hardship of being a gym owner because it's one of those jobs that everyone is in fighting wants that like if you're a fighter and you don't make it big time maybe you're like your fallback plan is always opening the gym right everyone has that in the back of their mind but I think the few jobs will pin you down as much as being a gym owner for sure it's a lot of responsibility because not only do you have to run the business but you're also managing this little culture this tribe of people to try the pen they all have different ways of pulling each other so it makes it very difficult it's the social element that's so hard to me it's not the work itself is just like like any other business right and it's hard for other business owners to understand it's because they don't see that I only see the business side it's only when they throw themselves in there they see the social aspect and how important hierarchies are to people and now they're constantly changing and people like they get along today tomorrow they don't and you're in the middle of all this literally just kind of handling all of it so it pins you down wears you out but they're still it's still very rewarding in a sense where I get a kick out of watching my students win I know and sure that like to me it's like it's not the same as winning yourself but it's it's a small little taste you know they're gonna it is a little bit like it yeah in some ways I find it's more rewarding when you're have students that are very successful especially at least from me I like those rags to riches stories where you have a guy who's two left feet clumsy yeah very unconfident and then you make that guy an ass kicker it's like man that's some you know like yeah I helped get this guy there so I find that very rewarding I feel like that's kind of like I was I was a fat chubby kid shy I kind of developed into Who I am now it was I I think that's the best part of yeah teaching is is that it doesn't take as much work to get somebody who's already a superstar and make them a little better you know like that guy he could have probably got anywhere and you would do well you know but like when you get somebody who like nobody else once and you make that guy you know you shine that turn and make it a diamond half then that's something it takes a good coach to do that but like up above a good coach it takes a good environment I think that the environment is as important as a good coaching and a lot of people overlook that but it I always say this you know like a coach's job it's not just teach technique and be a good coach like a board psychologist pretty much become like a father figure but is managing that environment so it's a good one if the environment is good I think everything flows better to learn process easier less drama less rivalries everyone's watching out for themselves for their partners I got a new model in the gym I might have mentioned the last pocket I can't remember now but is like your top priorities making sure your partners are safe yes yeah that's a top priority and the other one is fighting as a team sport you know I think we got to change that mindset what fighting is about me me me and I don't believe in that I think that fighting is a team sport and it's better for everyone for the individuals if we start thinking of it that way because now you were watching out for your part you want him to win and he wants you to win we actually make progress but I want to talk about a game of inches there today we're talking about the difference between first and second is not a lot yeah I think those little small improvements inside the gym that you make when people are actually wanting you to get better they want you to improve I think that makes a big difference I never say you know that's fine good I just posted some today about the safety or I called peace I don't know if you've been singing about my Facebook feed I've been seeing all he's posted about many training women when I was like how do I say no to training with a woman one guy saw a woman asked me to go a hundred percent and I'm 6 foot 3 200 pounds and I did like okay I think sometimes talking about even I posted but I think it'll be interesting here for one I to me it's never mattered if it's man woman whatever the hell you want to call yourself child your do you want to train we train yeah but now how intense you train that's a different story right like me and you were both bigger guys yeah and I haven't trained with any woman close to my size you know so I'm always going like I feel like safety factor has to play a role in there if I'm going I see it like I've been grappling with a child if I'm going with a guy 80 pound kid and I go 100 percent in it I'm gonna destroy him and even the kids mortality on this gonna hurt him so just a big dude you know like much bigger but stronger than him and I think it's the same way if you're going with a woman if you got like a hundred pound weight advantage you're going 100 percent on them like for real hundred percent you're gonna hurt that person yeah and then you know you can't win that one because if you go too easy they're like all you told me that I'm not as athletic as you because like we have that whole quality thing now is such a that's such a strong theme in society and then if you beat them up you're the [ __ ] but it's one of those lose-lose situations I don't like to trade with beginners between me and you I avoid trading with white belts I'll train with them as a private or well I don't like that but I avoid it because they hurt me more than I heard that like they're constantly you know and then we know it's gonna train with like someone's a lot smaller you'd be eight maybe a child or a woman you got to be super careful because I can put my way if I get the psychotron you Dave and I put a hundred percent my weight on it you may not like it yeah you're not gonna get hurt correct if I put like how I thought if I put half my weight on what they could be big they get too uncomfortable then they have their breasts and then you're pulling their hair next time you reach with it so all these things you got to watch out for and I can't be me you see what I'm saying yes so I don't liked it because I don't get a kick out of it cuz I can't do what I want to do I get a kick out of a challenge I get a kick out of someone who I can fight hard and they can fight hard back I'm getting endorphins from that if I'm not getting that I am just helping you but I'm not really that much of a help either because I'm not being realistic enough so neither of us are getting anything out of this maybe a little bit yes what I'm saying there's too much of a discrepancy of weight and sometimes skill level and I just feel like it's we're not really engaged in jiu-jitsu and I really grabbed her hair it's just me trying to be lighter and you know you try to move a guy that's twice your size and you can yeah hey I have two minds about one leg I'll roll with wipeouts or blue belts or whatnot but I'm just playing a totally different game right like you know if I'm gonna go with a white belt and it doesn't matter they're my size if I go 100% them I'm gonna destroy them yeah and it's not gonna be entertaining for me because it's like too easy and then it's not gonna be good for them because they're just getting smashed non-stop you know so if I'm with somebody I feel I have any huge advantage over whether it's size strength or technique I go light but to me that means different things if it's just like technique wise then I'm gonna play a particular type of game maybe one I'm not good at just to see how yeah I can pull it off right and I'm giving them resistance you know they're gonna have a hard time as it is if it's someone who is weaker than me or lighter than me then I don't put all my way of them if I feel like I'm too big to be on top I'll just play off my back so I try to work things that I won't be able to use my advantages as much so I'm putting a handicap to myself right because you're right it's not realistic like in that one situation it's because hey 280 I'm assuming the woman's are honored twenty-nine hundred forty pounds it's too much it's like you will hurt like the closest equivalent I have is my student look although he's six foot three to 350 pounds just enormous and he's a pro about now so he's very technical whenever I train with him 90% chance and leaving with some sort of pain or injury yeah it's just too big of a guy you know you're a fighter you're athlean someone like oh a smaller woman who does it have that background right I got started yeah in a pond I'm lifting weights on a dime pretty strong and still I'm gonna get hurt right it's just because I'm dealing with so much sighs and it's not like he's being a jerk either it's just you could only be so gentle yeah so I mean what I owe some people like if you want to challenge yourself like that I get it but you can't do that every day it's like again I'm we lifting so much I think everything whether it's like doing max lifts every day yeah you're gonna hurt yourself this is a matter of time that you're supposed to back slip once every six months once a year so like that so like if you want to challenge yourself and give yourself like an absolute tournament experience maybe one seldomly you know because like I said for the other guy it's gonna be up to the big guy it's also awkward because I feel like well I can't know the way I was describing it and say Kenna corral chickens you've been in the farm and done that sounds horrible it's horrible politically roosters it's just beaks and claws and you're trying to be gentle like okay you know super aggressive yeah so I think what you're saying about white belts being more dangerous to roll with I agree predict for me the lighter white belt like somebody I consider like 140 pounds yeah and a white belt I'm just seeing elbows flying all over the place near me because they're like they're they know they're smaller so they have to overcompensate but then they don't have the control that comes with it so it's like trying to put a cat a bath you know it yeah and not only that I think that a lot of times like not just white belts but women and like you know people are smaller than you in general they feel like oh no Rob's a superhero he's a big guy he could take a knee to the balls you know like no I can't I don't want to you know but like they roll with you and they're not - they don't realize even though that I can still hurt you yes they're not gonna injure you but it's gonna be you know Shin to the nuts or it's gonna be a headbutt or they're gonna grab they grab the ghee they grab your hair and they pull it they don't have I'm serious I do that all the time you know like little stuff like that you know the elbows are flying and they think that because you're bigger than them they can't really hurt you and then if you complained something or like I supposed I thought you're supposed to be a tough guy like yeah I could I'm you know I'm not a wuss you know like I can yeah but it doesn't mean you want to get you know you don't want this when you're going for a guillotine you don't want some digging their nails into your hands correct people do that all the time especially the less skill they are the thing the more they do they think they can because they're smaller right right that's why it's a weird dynamic like wait a second man I'm going easy on you like no need to scratch you don't dig your nails into my hands yeah it's it's like there's a responsibility on both sides I feel like because at the other day you know your school on her I am as well I want everybody who walks into the gym to be better once they walk out correct that can't happen and people are getting injured all the time right it's so like I feel if you're the bigger guy you responsible right you know you're looking out for the safety of that guy pretend it's your own kid you're not gonna crush your own kid I hope go a hundred percent of them really you know to be cautious with the use of force right that's why I feel like I am what I'm trained with someone who I'm better than I'm trying to be more precision right more precise with my application of force like if I'm gonna go for a rear naked I made this sort of go right across the jaw line and squeeze as hard as I can like now okay let me try to be as technical as possible I'm going to try slid off big fish and get a really clean choke so like I use minimal force to finish but if you're the smaller guy I feel like you have to understand that too right like this guy he's not going to hundred percent in you me you have to go harder than he is but at the same time control yourself yeah don't over me there's a few people I know that every time all those like Oh ello a headbutt you know and then they're they're very sensitive the other way around which is kind of annoying too I feel it's like the corralling chickens I'm not gonna I'm not gonna like mention yeah but there are people in the gym that they're constantly like they go at an intensity and what happens is if you're going balls to the wall with me anyway okay oh yeah the volume up you know and and I'm okay with that I didn't like that but when you do it to them they don't like whoa man why it going so hard I'm like completely not I did they're unaware of how they roll right so it's almost like oh I want to play by certain rules but you can't I love it when people tell me let's go easy because to me that's code translation is I'm gonna go really hard I want you to go easy cuz I want to beat you that's what they're really saying right but don't want them words like that like man go easy and like 9 out of 10 they try to kill you yeah so I already know man like my a my my alarms go off just like that and like oh go easy okay easy my ass and I just I'll give them like the benefit of the doubt for the first five seconds you if I can see them spazzing out just a little bit I know it's on yeah you know but they get upset because you know it's funny if you pay close attention the people were upset and complaining about hard training or like all everyone's hurting me I'm the victim always the same people too like I've seen I've noticed that it's like always like some people that they always have to be the victim on the mats you know like oh it's poor me hurting me everyone's hurting me why is everyone hurry to me and I'm like I don't think here anyone's going any harder with you then you know then you are with the person next to them it's you get hurt a lot because I think that you think you're getting hurt along you know say it's like there's like that reinforcing mechanism you know it's like in their head and everyone's after them like a persecution kind of syndrome right I think it's a mix of one ego not allowing them to tap soon enough or to concede same position so you're going you're going much more intense you're letting things go a little bit further so you're putting yourself in a position to get injured more often and then the fact that particularly the case we're talking about where they got it's the guy that goes hard but doesn't like being it doesn't like it the other way around they're spazzing all over the place and then that's just gonna make it more likely for you to get hurt when you're going ballistic all the time increases the odds big time because you're not controlling what you're doing so I was like anything can happen you know I have like a student of mine I'm not gonna mention his name but like he's always it's uh it's either no intensity at all or like a hundred miles an hour he's like super explosive very athletic yeah but he does that like he's like nothing nothing nothing Wow explosive you're like whoa that's the other thing too because you have to be prepared because like if it escalates and we're both escalated together I think that's safer man you're this this guy knows this right here all of a sudden cuz you're not prepared it's kind of like you're striking and the guy's going hard and you're prepared for you know for someone hit you hard it's completely different than for all of a sudden I just hate you as hard as I as I can in your chest yeah you know saying the pain is different expectation you'll absorb it was really prepared I think your body just absorbs it prepares itself for that sort of damage it's the same thing when I'm wrapping it I like to escalate I'm okay with I hate when people go from zero to 100 that for some reason it just bugs the hell out of me yeah well for me for striking particularly I use that a lot a change of rhythm yes because it does throw people off I agree no even in grappling it even grab but it just sucks it sucks as the other guys right but it's a good it's like one of the things that you can do without really changing anything it's just your rhythm right like particularly for like striking if you're going slow and methodical the whole time the guy gets used to that pace and then gets comfortable there and then the next round you show up and now you're like exploding everywhere doing a lot of back and forth motion it just it freaks people out because like you're saying now like I have to adjust to this new pattern yes and strike ins a lot about patterns you're on I say this all the time I'm not a striking expert but like I have good understand the game right I think were the biggest mistake that people make in anime and strike in general is they they they move in patterns and they become predictable you don't know what's coming right it doesn't we're like to me the scary guy is always the unpredictable guy yeah no idea was gonna throw it you gotta watch out for everything and I'd become paranoid because he's got so many told you like what the hell's going X you know yeah where's that guy that he's got like a one you know one-trick pony like one combination it's not a difficult guy to gravitic down exactly and that's why usually you see my gonna find it's like people the first round there even the first few minutes it kind of going slow feeling each other out measuring and then they get the measure then okay the firefight resume but like if you can always make them adjust the whole fight it's very nerve-wracking for the other guy because he could never figure you out so I think it is a sign of a more intellectual fighter to be able to change their rhythms throughout the fight like I know that guy I like doing that like in there I'll start off when I'm doing striking Laidback I'm being a little more cautious and I'm also always backing up and that there's two things for me one it makes it I walk into me which it makes it easier to do takedowns and then two I get to see everything coming at me yeah right so I'm also further at range any strikes that do come in I'm moving away from them already so I'm not gonna take the blunder blow but then I'll switch round two I'll start stepping forward the whole time and people marching the guy down and then it just screws you up because you don't know what's coming you didn't know that and then now what's happening for me since I'm a grappler you're walking into me now so I'm gonna get into more clinches which is what I want and - now you're walking into my punches also so if throws you off yeah and then every time you can make those pattern shifts and like you said it works for grafting as well you know they get for everything whenever you can make this type of pattern shifts whether it's a wound pattern or as a pacing it's gonna really make it hard for that person to get a good aim of you it's like when you're trying to get the bullseye or the crosshairs like a Top Gun and whatnot yeah targets always moving around you can never lock in you know you're always trying to guess and I say this I since we're talking about striking like I am or about my guys my MMA class with shadow boxing mm-hmm right and one eye I've moved away from your defense be in your hands I think your hands are your defense for close range if we're close this makes a lot of sense if we're at this range right here this makes no sense it turns me in what punching bag yes so I teach them how to open up their stance and keep a wider and if you watch that very good strikers you're not fighting like this anymore and MMA they're widen your stance longer leg stance longer arm stance cuz I'm become more unpredictable when my hands are out in the open versus here you know exactly my hands are coming from right and you know and going back to the defense thing is your real defense is not your where your hands are at your head moving and your footwork correct and your feet are moving correctly and you're controlling the range you're never getting hit and if you watched a very good striker the reason why I like guys like like Anderson to me like one of the best strikers of all time in MMA he how many times you see him walk out of a cage bleeding you know yeah it happened like maybe while you got knocked out by why I mean that you know but it's not one of those things where had to happen on his career and I think a lot of it has to do with his movement look at his movement had a head movement and footwork it was very very crafty like he was very unpredictable like you're describing versus the guys that are like you know you can think of him not gonna mention names but a lot of people they you know what's coming it said the same stuff over and over and over and I think that's the coach's job to kind of you know change that grant it as a coach I know this it's very difficult to get people to listen you sometimes some people are excessively stubborn man like they do this I've always done it this I'm always gonna do it I'm like I'm not sure I can help you man yeah you know those people just gotta be their own coaches like you I don't even know why you're paying me I think a lot of people have embraced the changing of stances particularly you see everybody now fights both stances yeah back in the day nobody did that like so possible it was truly a unique stance now take everybody's help on and you know conventional and I guys like Dominick Cruz I think help bring to the forefront how important football game is because yeah be watching fight after the fight is just him going around other sets but working the business yeah just making people miss all the time you know and his head's going and his head's all over the place yeah and I think that's one of the most important skills for a striker in MMA is head movement because in boxing you can get away with a lot because the gloves are so big I mean that big enough adding but like just on the size of it if I do this I'm completely shelled you won't get through right you would have to come around the sides maybe but in MMA you do this there's a lot of gaps here is a lot again and if I go away like this now I can't see that but your hands are predictable - that's the other thing like you know if I if I'm gonna jab and right hand from here right you know exactly my hands are coming from where I'm here yeah it's a lot more difficult to predict what I'm really alley always had the you'd like to use the low jab and I do that also like from when you're out of distance it's hard to see because it's coming from underneath ya know your peripheral vision usually terminates around your chest so when you pop out boom and it's moment chemical tool for something you snap it more was it comes from here it does if it doesn't never thought snap I've never had a great job but it never felt as snappy as the jab that came from underneath I was able to create more momentum I feel the same way this job from the hip it just has because I always describe the perfect strike is like a whip right yeah every loose right the last talented yeah boom and snapped and it comes right back you know so like when you're here yeah this is feels a little that you you're really compressed here it doesn't feel as much punch which is when you hear your arms already loose so when you with it right and that everyone freaks out about the defense but if your feet are moving and your heads moving you're it's better defense than having your hands up yeah for sure granted there are times like you're especially for against the fence you know speaking of MA now if you're you know you should have your hands up because it's it's your footwork is out there yes you're caged right and pressed against the back of the of the fence and now like you've got to be had you got to have your hands up and get the hell out of there but I don't mean just like wrapping it up with him and making like I I truly believe that we're only scraping the surface when it comes to MMA I think that the influence people still teach jiu-jitsu from ma like it's jiu-jitsu they still teach wrestling from ma like it's wrestling same thing with striking way and I know this in digits it's harder for me to see cuz I'm so immersed in jiu-jitsu so to me is like oh that's what you do it you know I don't question it as much it's interesting we're striking and rest and I've always been moved questioning more like why do you do it like that not like this no that's how it's always been done no one says it like that but I'd like very much to answer like a boxer will tell you that this is how you move your feet as I put your hands up the Thai guys this is how you throw a knee and I'm thinking if somebody just a perspective I'm going like water you do it like that I'm able to think of it critically whereas you just so like it's been harder for me to make those adaptations in a lot of ways because it's like dogma like you've been doing it for so long this is how you do it but now like because I'm a coaching more MMA I'm looking at like what can my Jiu Jitsu can I change what can i what can i how can I think of this differently so one thing I came up with and see if you agree with me is when I'm passing your guard in jiu-jitsu the first thing I'm looking for is under hooking head generally speaking right because I want that control I want my three points right and MMA why would I want the under hook of the head I can't punch you can't do damage it's not easy to finish someone a cycle shorter than a so what a lot of times the mere opponent does he brings you and he hugs you now he bites time he breathes maybe the referee stands you back up so what I have been doing is I've developed in the system where I have my guys kind of like go-between close guard to half guard combat stance side control and back and forth between those two II hoping the guy Turtles up what I really want is turtle position that's what I really want right and then but when I'm moving into side control in half guard i frame like monkey grips on your bicep and your neck so I can control the range you can't really get underneath me right you can't bring me too close and you can't move far away cuz I kind of control in the distance now and I can strike so if it's a close fight I can deliver strikes little things like that right like on the seat belt on the back I never let him get it to one one I protect my choke and Hannah so every time you go for a seatbelt yank my arm out and I'll do something else and I'll punch and then every time I'm going for that neck if I see you're getting that 20100 yank my arm out I never let him get it to one one because even a guy who sucks at jujitsu if he gets it to one one when you're on the back sometimes it by the whole round there it's not easy to free your hand so little things that we do in jujitsu they're very effective in jujitsu that don't make there are ways we can improve on an MMA is what I'm saying and I think that those are everywhere Davis striking wrestling they're everywhere we just got to keep our eyes open to make those modifications that's a good that's a good approach as far as creating frames versus getting tired because you're right like just so we want to be tight because we're trying to minimize escape and minimize distance but as we know you lose all your leverage for striking when there's no distance I mean elbows if you're that tight even when you're like this you can't really do anything it's nice you're just like them so yeah you do want a little bit of space there and the velocity that we've used a lot of these from my side is pinning but I'm not a big fan of being inside control it's easier to escape in MMA with all the sweat and you know you got any under hooks I like half guard the most if there's any position I could choose half guard yeah it's the easiest position to pin somebody and I generally I want them to try to stand up from the half guard so I can bar the arm from yeah and now I'm just gonna strike and ultimately you might give up your back and then I can take the back there but I can finish from the BART arm position that's like my favorite thing to go through and we do it your underhook pan over hook pan what's the other one Half Nelson Bay there's a few pinning series that we work for and it's funny to say that because I agree I think half car is the best ground in Pappas I think grounded out from close guard is way overrated yeah everyone at all Brides on top is like man like these guys like guys got his head down it's like punching his ribcage and like [ __ ] punches it's not a great ground in composition I don't thinks I control ease I don't think mount is I don't think it's I mean mountains a great ground in composition if your guy doesn't know what he's doing or if he's really tired but like it's most guys will bury their face into your belly and it's hard to hit him next thing you know you're off balance you know I think that half guard is King foreground in town and you know it's funny because it's this is interesting going you know just bring in jiu-jitsu under the story you know how the rules developed right like this is in 1967 when they came up with pretty much the IBEW GAF system right it's changed over the years but it's roughly the same what they wanted to do they wanted to drift away from judo they wanted to be different from judo they wanted to emphasize the ground because Brazilians happen to be more skilled on the ground it's the only place they can have a chance against Japanese long story short everywhere they were losing the Japanese even on the ground they were losing but they introduced was that Brazilian has developed his defensive system against top players like could you know what guy takes you down he put them in close guard it's a draw if I drew I really want right now nothing but they were looking at self-defense I think judo kind of lost the self-defense aspect of things and one thing presented you to do correctly in my opinion is they they kept that in mind more or less Riley this is supposed to teach how to fight so they were rewarding positions that would be dominant in a fight right so if I get to in their view like psy controls a dominant position in a fight Mountain is a dominant position knee on belly is a dominant position because I can drop bombs so if you look at IBJJF system it really it reflects what they interpreted not necessarily my interpretation but what they interpret at the time what would be a dominant system that when you know that would mimic a fight yeah right and that's why the knee on belly is two points when you really think about it I have all points are scored in jiu-jitsu the one that is scored the least isn't the young belly now that says something to me it's not great control but they interpret is great control it might be great control get someone doesn't know how to fight how many neon bellies you see in the UFC yeah none one in the I mean I'm serious like you don't you know what does that tell you about how good a position as far as control goes now this is blasphemy in jiu-jitsu circles like I'm a guys look at me oh yeah of course but in jiu-jitsu that's blasted me because it's document you see the dogma yeah it's it's so ingrained that knee on belly is such a dominant position when in my opinion it isn't for self-defense purpose and ground-and-pound purposes we should be Ward in half guard because I agree with your half guard is king because you can always go back and forward it's like in the middle between side control mouth and closed guard and you have all those options right it's kind of like the middle and it's where you can control create more distance to deliver good punches yeah better than mountainside control my opinion yeah I feel great position to throw strikes the submission opportunities for the bottom guy are very limited you have one of his legs trapped so it's very difficult to stand up and you have access to the whole body right because I can hit to the body I can hit to the head easy range without overextending myself yeah overall I always have a close guard striking is if you go for the head you're gonna be leaning forward your base will be compromised and the guy who knows what he's doing or plea down and then you have to work your way back up get into a good posture swing again before you get pulled down here and it's like a repeating process he doesn't have to be good either for him to get an over hook on even close guard and keep your head now it takes zero skill and that guy who has zero skill will give a good grap or a hard time if he's there yeah it buys them a lot of time oh my striking philosophy when it's in a closed guard is to be a sniper one punch at a time angry I'm not trying to throw volume because that's only gonna expose my risk more every punch I throw consecutively my balance gets lost further because every strike you're cleaning in so I tell that guys when you're in the closed guard you have to be careful because you can get submitted if you overextend throw precise strikes and pick a spot to hit too often when people are striking there they are just punch in the head there's a lot of targets on the head yeah what in particular you're aiming for the brow nose change take a spot and work it out and one shot at a time once the guard opens then I could start throwing more volume because I don't have to worry about getting sucked into the hips go with AK on my base make sure the guard can close then they can rip a little bit more or past a half guard but ultimately once I'm in that position like half guard then it could do a lot more damage I feel like one of the underutilized striking targets is the body the body particularly a half guard is so easy to attack and again also very low risk because you don't shift your body weight all right like even close guard the same thing whenever you punch the head you have to lean forward if I punch the body and pretty much stay where I'm at and if you weak in that body the legs are gonna start falling apart too I think a good example of someone who did this back in the day was a rampage against Chuck Liddell if you watched that fight at one point Chuck's turn to win rampage takes him down gets in his half guard and just elbows the crap out his body pah-pah-pah Chuck's legs just went like rubbery he passed and I think he killed him at that point there was a very good display of body striking and everybody's so hit hungry and ever mayne JL whenever I see someone he's using good body strikes particularly for granite pound I'm like Bravo you know what happens is I agree with you I think the head strike impresses the public because it's bleachy there's blood and clearly if he's bleeding is getting is asking not necessarily the case yeah your face can be destroyed and you still want to fight yeah that's how I look at it you know but the fan doesn't look at it that way and a body strike sometimes it'd be internal bleeding and you're so damaged and a liver shot hurts like anything it's hard to explain how much a liver shot hurts and there were shots like adding kick to the nuts but but it's like worse but workers it's more immediate like you know when you get hit harder than that's there's like a few it's like a second delay yeah and then you drop down liver shots like now it's like lights off for a second and then like it's unbearable pain for like five seconds and then it starts going down a little bit it still hurts though still very tender but you know yeah like it's uh there's a lot of spots in the body can do a lot of damage could break a rib and once it's funny because when we talk about they've been made with with people that don't know him in a day it was I'm the God like he's bleeding it's a blood that seems that and I'm like that's not what you got to work the blood doesn't hurt yeah that's just like they call it red sweat and religious red sweat again it's just it doesn't really bother you it's the it's the knee it's the ankle it's the broken rib right it's the herniated disc on your neck and no one sees but that's what's really bugging you yeah you know it's and I think that only people have been you know that no sports understand these things like how much a bad knee can hurt right even though it's not visible but yeah you're right strikes in the body they have a huge impact on the fight but they're underutilized yeah and they're very lasting - right like you can eat a good head shot round one recover and then by round two you're back to normal right but you take a hard liver shot you're not back to normal until they have next day but you know it's I don't remember like then nut shot - like your body gets tender if it gets hit like like yeah the PFL is cognitive or a few months ago the guy got kicked in the nuts like three times now after the third time it before I can remember I've never seen it happen so many times and everyone's like all he's faking it because it is no way like it's like you can see the video it barely touched right but like I think he's not faking it is what happened the first time was so legit it hurt him so bad after that you're so tender down that I gave if it just touches you it doesn't take much for you to go reset that pain back to begin and start all over again so he's not fake but it looked like it because the next of the the last strikes he barely touched it yeah right but yeah it's it's very it doesn't go away no it stays I've been on both sides of this where I've seen the major disadvantage and unfortunately there's no real way of making it fair once you got kicked in the nuts now the first time I was the guy who kicked the guy to nuts I was fighting a guy I just started training him at me like three months and I was training this guy who was a boxer and he was just tagging me up on my feet and we're kickboxing so you kicked him in the balls I went for an inside kick and then up a little bit was an accident and I felt so bad okay suddenly I was is destroying him yeah no legs anymore yeah he's done and I was just running around I'm like oh whatever I didn't realize how big a deal this was I mean big it's like he could I mean he was just destroying me and I was running him around I'm like man this is a this is unfair yeah like and you see them people get kicked that's all the time they don't like nothing happens like no something's happened and you can't really erase it yeah I've been on the other side where I was roundhouse kicking my brother and he steps I kick me right in the balls I couldn't stand up for 10 minutes brother I just really got it no I was like two bricks piece I was down the floor and my brother was laughing I'm it's not funny you actually say stop but you're too much pain to get up with you that I remember I was trying I was trying to stand up because I wanted to keep going I couldn't I would get to my knees no no can't get up so I mean like I people see people getting keep him that's like oh he's faking or he's know like man there's levels to this game like some signs are shot so bad but you can't get up you know the other one is like kick the nuts liver and a stinger you I mean anyone who's rest'll played football and those perfectly familiar with those yeah man down the arm sometimes like down the neck and the back a little bit - I got to feel out I might dumb I rhomboid it's one I mean it's up there with the liver shop man like for like five ten seconds you can't even think you're in so much pain yeah you're just like your mind just shuts down there's so much pain and then you know you're on the ground for like ten minutes like man what just happened you know I have a herniated disc on my neck from a stinger and I remember like the first guy that taught me a double leg was Tony de Souza okay so 22 Souza is a guy who invented the Peruvian net because he's from Peru and he was doing that joke back in a day so they called the Peruvian necktie right that's where it comes from and he taught me he's got a brilliant northa dog style of wrestling later I learned but at the time I guess guys the best wrestler and the Jemez gonna teach me how to wrestle to Bluebell yeah and you know he's like you headbutt the guy in the gut you know and I'm like okay well my head's a weapon yeah have a big head so maybe maybe that's gonna help me so I'm thinking about like every shot like if some wrestlers do that like they'll hit like oh like that blast double and okay under the gun with the head and I did that for a long time and then like I was going was going against guys that didn't know either were lighted lighter than me or maybe they didn't know how to wrestle so it worked for a while it hurt my head sometimes but never too bad and I remember when Thomas trained with forests and forest is like he's a very athletic guy he was heavier than me at the time and I think he I don't know if you like leaned into this shot at the same time he walked in but I basically went like headfirst in his belly my neck went back and I never forgot remember where I was when this happened and my neck has never been the same I was like ten years ago and my neck has never been the same so no I mean I I see some people every now and then teaching the headbutt to the gut and I think you've got a very short neck like big traps like that shorts too maybe like the injury ratio there is lower because you're kind of shoulders are attached to your head almost all right but if you got a normal-sized neck I think that's a horrible idea and I mean I don't teach it I don't recommend it now I always hate people with the shoulder which i think is even stronger than the head right perfect position for this shot and I'm not in danger of getting hurt yeah I used a head I do the head but method it's a bit of technique and also knowing where to hit right a lot of people when they do those blasts doubles and they're using the head they're going against the hip I see you or on the stomach they're like very low that's probably me and what's gonna happen is that your hips for me and though this is your center of gravity they're not gonna really move that much and if I'm trusting my hips forward you're hitting a brick wall true so that's one problem the second problem is the angle the head right like for famara purposes if you're hitting with your head like this you're gonna have a bad time because you're next to hyper flex and it's hyper extend it's gonna be really bad and then it happens your neck cracks I've had that happen before so you want to hit with your head I got a 45 degree angle so I'm not here I'm here so I'm hitting with this yeah right so the chance of my neck folding this way is because that's how you hurt yourself you're going backwards yeah or if you were to tilted and then your Nichols for yeah but if you're next in that right angle boom like the way I tell people to practice it go in a heavy bag and head buddy and if you can't do it then you're not at the right angle so good way of practicing everybody I've been so traumatized from that like the other thing I would say besides so when I was talking about the target I try to hit as high up as I can like middle of the chest here because this part of your body is more likely to fold in very good point the other thing is the body posture if the guy is low like this you're not gonna get it it's gonna be much harder because he's already braced for it and for me that ideal time to blast on somebody is when they pop up yeah oh sorry a good height snuff to me they overcompensate and lift up that's the time you hit it because he's kind of moving back he's straight up so if I hit him here he will fold this way and then it's gonna be I agree 100% of the time that I've got into trouble with doing it is out of posture hitting too low and I know I hear my [ __ ] man so I wouldn't say like I got I wouldn't bite pieces to white belts or maybe people who already have you know older neck issues it's not a there's it's prone to get your neck popped all right like even when you're doing everything right sometimes you're just gonna slip up and the consequences to hurting your neck far outweigh the benefits it's going to take there's no like that's that's one of those things it's funny cuz like now I'm far more careful with my body I get like deja Vu's in practice sometimes like if I hurt myself the opposition my guide and remember what happened the last time I did this it's funny cuz your body remembers your memory you try to think of that injure but your body knows that though this is not a good idea when I was a young girls a lot more reckless you know like I'd be like you know if I had to go on concrete to take someone down to get those two I do it in practice and there's a 50% chance both of us we're gonna get hurt it was still worth it yeah what do you worth because I beat him in practice you know like that's kind of your mind you don't want to win at any cost and then you know now like I see my students doing that I have to sit him down and talk to them a gay man it's not worth it calm down I know you want to win really bad but you're risking you know you don't even injuring your partner but yourself - so let's you almost have to ask them to learn how to switch off that aggression sometimes mid take down right because you know you can be blinded by your desire to accomplish the takedown or the suil yeah I think that this wraps it around to where we started which is spazzy it was badly but also just being mindful of neutral safety right I think what you said really struck home to me was team right we all win together if you're if I win by hurting you there was a net loss I agree all right so like in training I try to take the welfare of my training partner and to a factor I think I'm not gonna go reckless on him just to score or like a moral victory when it's gonna cost him time off the mats or you know I mean people had the jobs and they work and if they can't walk you just ruined this guy's life potentially you know I really yeah I called the golden war right I want to treat others as they treat me if I got the guy in a compromising position I'm not gonna overextend it because I I don't want that guy to do that to me when he catches me right the golden rules gotta be present in the gym I think people for it's funny man I feel like yeah you know what the ball who is I know it mode I think most people I don't know if I was talking another kid like like early 20 had no had never heard of it I'm like I've heard of that growing up like almost every day someone brought it up you know that was costly it's a cost of team I get feel like I don't even talked about less maybe but uh I think it's super important in any environment you know for you do it because you need your training partners in a gym then you need them it's for your even for selfish purposes you need those guys be healthy if for my understanding this is biblical yeah teaching from Jesus Confucius he said yeah he said it first yeah I've read something others saying no Jesus said it as well just gonna foucha said the same thing in different words earlier I want to say thousand two thousand years before I can I'm not gonna give you a date here for Confucius but like he did say it before either way yeah it just shows you very wise advice from millennia ago it's very good advice and it still works today it's very applicable for sure alright let's wrap it up then
