Episode 05 – Creonte

David and Robert discuss the origins, problems, and reasons for the contempt of the creonte – a term created by grandmaster Carlson Gracie to describe a person who switches teams. In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, being called a creonte is like having a scarlet letter on your back.

They also discuss different training regimens, such as altitude training vs using a training mask, levels of intensity of a wrestling practice versus MMA, and much more.

Welcome to the Breaking the Guard Podcast!

This is David Avellan, and I’m excited to welcome you to this new venture that myself and Robert Drysdale will be introducing to the martial arts world.

Our goal with this podcast is to talk about issues that are often ignored in the media. Whether it is because they are too worried about covering the latest scandal, or worried about offending their readers, that is not something we are concerned with here.

It is our intention to focus on real issues in the martial arts community, and dig deep to bring out as much information as possible. Most of these will be mental and philosophical in nature, as those are most commonly ignored or put aside.

Although we aren’t professional psychologists or philosophers, we both have read up quite a bit, and as instructors have done our due diligence on our topics of discussion. We will bring in special guests regularly to help bring in more view points and share their experiences with us.

If that sounds like a good time, then you are in for a treat! And if you haven’t already, make sure to subscribe to our email newsletter and our YouTube channel below:
